Yesterday our new roomie moved in and we locked the cats in the bedroom so they wouldn't try to run out the door as we were moving things in... but alas... one had an accident on the bed....i didn't notice it until probally 2-3 hours after it had happened(but that is still early for most people finding an "accident" left from a cat)

the first thing we did was pull out our little hand held bissel little green machine(carpet cleaning machine) and we cleaned the bed spot and the quilt(it's a fairly new maybe 2 years old fiber fill conforter) we cleaned that both sides and got it all up but there is still a slight smell of cat pee...

it also got on my FAVE pillow(what is probally 8-10 years old now) and i know deep down i have to throw it away now even though i hate to part with it... it's falling apart anyways(i was about to take the stuffing out of it and put it into a new pillow casing to make a new pillow out of the same stuffing but alas that can't happen anymore.. i'm gonna miss that pillow i loved it so!)

so i was wondering if anyone knew a good way to get the smell out without bringing it to the dry cleaners(i beyond can't afford that!!!! i actually fear how much that would cost!!)

it's too big to fit into a washing machine we can soak it in the tub but to get the smell out is gonna take more then JUST soaking in water... sooo long story short... does anyone have any ideas of how to get this smell out??(it's no longer a strong smell it's just a light smell but i want to atleast try to get it out while it's still semi fresh)

Date: 4/25/2003 6:31:00 PM  From Authorid: 27950    Hey found this information;
Fresh urine can often be cleaned up with the first two steps below, but you'll sometimes need the third:

Blot: Use an old, thick, bath towel and blot up as much liquid as you can with it. Continue with paper towels until no moisture is seen.
Dilute and Blot Again: Heavily spray the area with clear water or a mild solution of white vinegar and water, then blot again, as above.
Neutralize: If the odor still exists after the carpet is completely dry, it's time to break out the big guns: odor removers, based on chemicals, enzymes or bacteria/enzymes, all designed to neutralize the odor by eating up the bacteria causing it. See my Top 5 Picks for these products.
Old Urine Stains

In the case of dried urine, the bacterial process is well under way, and you'll need the help of the odor removal products. Follow the manufacturer's directions for best results. Be aware that if the urine soaked all the way through to the wood floor underlying, you may need to remove the carpet and padding, and treat the wood directly. Then you'll have to make the decision whether to attempt to save your existing carpet or recarpet entirely.

Black Light

If you are surrounded by the scent of cat urine but can't find any stains, consider investing in a black light, which will illuminate the cat pee, as if by magic. They are readily available in the larger pet stores, as well as online.

Found this addy for the many different cleaners

Date: 4/25/2003 8:32:00 PM  From Authorid: 37872    You can try oxy-clean...
Date: 4/25/2003 8:53:00 PM  From Authorid: 56927    If the cat peed on your bed then really try not to worry about it. Im sue this sort of thing happens all the time. In many households on goods green earth. At least it didn't pee on your husband, then we would have trouble. He kick the cat, or throw it onto the carpet or something. I don't know.
Date: 4/25/2003 10:13:00 PM  From Authorid: 27950    Sorry, I thought that you could apply the same method as you would with carpet, using the vinegar and water solution, as well as the blotting. And if need be move onto the other cleaners and neutralizers mentioned.
