CITY BANS SMELLY PEOPLE FROM BUSES ~~Angeleyez~~

(Oregon) - You had better hit the shower before you board the bus in Bend, Oregon. Proposed new city rules would ban spitting, smoking, skateboarding, and stinking on city buses. The regulations ban anyone who "emanates a grossly repulsive odor that is unavoidable by other Bend Extended Area Transit customers" from being in the bus station or on a bus.

"It's an effort to keep the riding experience as pleasant and safe as possible," said city attorney Jim Forbes. He noted that the city already has an ordinance prohibiting people from releasing "highly objectionable odors" on city property.

Date: 4/24/2003 6:18:00 PM  From Authorid: 28848    lol I wonder what training the bus driver would go through to determine who is too smelly to ride the bus. I've smelled some pretty offensive perfumes before, I wonder if that would count?
Date: 4/24/2003 6:20:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 45948    LOL, I don't know but can you imagine being kicked off the bus for being to "smelly"? That would be sooo embarassing!!
Date: 4/24/2003 6:25:00 PM  From Authorid: 53900    What about those people who work outside all day long and they are all sweaty and smelly after a hard day's work...would they not be allowed to ride the bus home?
Date: 4/24/2003 6:27:00 PM  From Authorid: 48989    how does a smelly person make a transit ride "unsafe", ridiculous laws always give us a laugh i guess, thnx 4 sharing!
Date: 4/24/2003 6:29:00 PM  From Authorid: 43608    i tihnk it would be rude. =/

Date: 4/24/2003 6:32:00 PM  From Authorid: 27558    I just ban trouble makers from my buses
Date: 4/24/2003 6:35:00 PM  From Authorid: 53052    i'd like to see that introduced on some busses around here.... sitting next to a person who reaks of pot or cigs is not a fun ride.. it's also not fun to sit in a seat after someone else has sat in it and smelled like urine
Date: 4/24/2003 7:16:00 PM  From Authorid: 35114    LMAO OMG I was JUST discussing this with my mom this morning. I was talking about wanting to ride the bus to the mall after school and she said I probably wouldn't want to because people smelled. LOL I like this law.
Date: 4/24/2003 7:18:00 PM  From Authorid: 35114    Good point "Jessie" Release me also has a good point. I ABHOR when people "marinate" in perfume.
Date: 4/24/2003 7:41:00 PM  From Authorid: 62104    what are they gonna do, have a smell inspector at the bus entrance sniff people as they step in??? OMG, i gotta catch the bus in like a few minutes....better go and put on some deoderant right now...byeAmanda1
Date: 4/24/2003 9:14:00 PM  From Authorid: 51941    I wish they would do that here. One time I was on the bus and this guy got on and sat like 2 seats in front of me and he smelt bad. I seriously thought I was going to get sick. It was a long ride, not really, but it seemed that way...Princess daveena
Date: 4/24/2003 10:14:00 PM  From Authorid: 31255    Great another way for people to discriminate against each other. Actually what this law will inadverently do is help keep homeless people homeless and unable to get the services out there for them, but of course we don't really think about the negative affects...
Date: 4/25/2003 8:01:00 AM  From Authorid: 62114    What a world!! Some people don't even notice they smell bad sometimes because they get used to their own odor!!*Roxygurl*
Date: 4/25/2003 8:24:00 AM  From Authorid: 58611    I was thinking about the homeless aspect of it...you know some people are not as luck as you and I and they don't have the luxury of taking a shower whenever they want to...and even if they are numb to that fact I bet you it still causes a twinge of pain inside thier hearts to see someone like me and you look at them disgustingly or make fun of them because of thier odor. This law is very discriminating if you ask me. Nobody likes to smell foul odors, but that is the chance you take when you walk out the door of your house everyday of your life. And what about the "ordinance prohibiting people from releasing "highly objectionable odors" on city property." So if someone has gas (god forbid) they are supposed to keep it in and deal with the cramps and pain of not releasing it? Yeah right! I mean of course find a bathroom and be descent about it, but sometimes that dont always happen even if you try! It sounds to me like this city has its nose a little to far up its own butt!

Date: 4/26/2003 8:15:00 AM  From Authorid: 28363    they could install a smell-o-meter, kind of like a metal detector, but nosier.. if it beeps, you get the boot
