While on a cross-country trip with my family some years ago, we visited Dinosaur National Monument (in Wyoming, I think).
I was walking our dog, Honey (Cocker Spaniel), and we went around a turn in the path, and came face to face with a life-size statue of a stegosaurus. Honey's fur bunched up, she flinched back, and began barking furiously. I pulled at her leash, telling her to stop, but she continued to bark--obviously trying to drive away this furious monster which was bearing down on the both of us.
Finally, I dropped the leash, walked over to the statue (which was sitting on the ground) and kicked its leg a few times. "See," I said, "it's not real!"
Honey blinked, walked up to the statue and sniffed. There was no scent, and after a moment, she decided that, indeed, it wasn't real. That decided, she promptly peed on the statue's leg! Satisfied, she walked...no, she swaggered away, leaving me going red as a fire engine.
