American Idol .... (tonight's final 6).....~SpaceCase

Tonight, the final six contestants took the stage performing songwriter Diane Warren's power ballads. Diane Warren was also the guest judge.

Here are the contestants in order, what song they performed and how I felt about them. (I already typed this once, but accidently hit escape, which cleared it, so this is gonna be a bit shorter)

1. Kimberly Locke - "If You Ask Me To" I can't believe I'm saying this, but I actually would've rather heard Celine Dion again. Locke's good college try lacked life, I was already bored by the third line and this was our first performance of the night. Egads!! Well, looks like I was alone, because all four judges loved it, saying it was her best to date and she just keeps getting better and more comfortable.

2. Clay Aiken - "I Could Not Ask For More" Though I am used to country recording artist Sara Evans rendition of this song, I really enjoyed the male approach. Simon was the only one to give a contrary comment, but in moy opinion, not only is it a complement, but entirely true. Simon believes he'd be big on Broadway, but that he's not what they had in mind for the AI...the crowd boooed.

3. Trenyce - "Have You Ever" I guess since I hadn't heard Brandi's version of this Diane Warren hit, I had no problem with Trenyce's performance. I felt she did a really great job; based on tonight's performances only, she is my #3 choice, Clay being #2 and of course we all know who I want to see win!!

4. Joshua Gracin - "That's When I'll Stop Loving You" Lemme just say this boy is meant to sing country...He wanted to sing this song because he used to sing it for his future wife...I'm not sure I'd have married him if he insisted on singing this song to me. Major pitch problems, just not his style. I wish him luck tomorrow...and that's all I'll say.

5. Carmen Rasmusin - "Love Will Lead You Back" I love this song. I hated her attempt to do it justice. She has a flatness in her head voice that kills the resonating quality in her higher range. She's young and just needs more practice, because she could really utilize that star-power once the whole package matures.

6. Ruben Studdard - "The Music of My Heart" What a wonderful performance to end the night on. My head, ears, and stomach could take no more amatuer performances, and the velvet teddybear had ther cure! This was a bit of a different style for Ruben, and he conquered it with flying colors. I am convinced he can sing anything (Remember "Sweet Home Alabama"?) and would love to hear him sing "Amazing Grace"

See you all next week, same time, same station!!

Date: 4/22/2003 6:54:00 PM  From Authorid: 19772    I'd have to say I agree with all of your opinions except one. Kimberly Locke did an amazing job tonight. She does have a beautiful voice and I agree that she does keep getting better and better. If there is any justice Carmen will be going home tomorrow but I also think Josh and Trenyce should be in the bottom three. I somehow doubt that Josh will be though. He seems to be winning the popular vote just because he's cute and a marine, but he rally didn't do a great job tonight. JMO ~Gabrielle~
Date: 4/22/2003 7:06:00 PM  From Authorid: 30621    You did a great job with this review. It was perfect. You should be a judge. Jynx, your right about Josh. Tonight I did just vote for him because he is cute and a marine. Could not help myself.
Date: 4/22/2003 7:09:00 PM  From Authorid: 24003    I dont like Carmen. She cant sing at all.

Date: 4/22/2003 7:25:00 PM  From Authorid: 11341    I thought Kimberly L was AWESOME. I really do think she gets better every week. Clay sounded great, but he usually does. I do agree that he would be great on broadway, but he would also make a good adult contemorary artist too. I just dont like Trenyce(did she forget some words?)....Josh did not do well tonight at all, he might make bottom 3 although I doubt it. Carmen, ugh! Just once I would like to see her actually let it out, not act it, be it! Ruben is Ruben. I still miss Ricky My pick for bottom 3 should be Carmen, Josh and Trenyce, but I bet America will put Kimberly in there instead of Josh. Thanks for doing this SpaceCase, I look forward to your posts as much as I look forward to seeing the show.
Date: 4/22/2003 7:25:00 PM  From Authorid: 45948    p.s. I made a website for American Idol if you wanna go check it out the link is http://www.geocities.com/angeleyez23s/idol.html
Date: 4/22/2003 7:39:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53836    you know guys, I try real hard to pay close attention, but it comes on during dinner and bath for my boys, so I hear some of it from other rooms...plus I try and take a few notes for each performer, so I might miss a mistake here and there, and I might have had my hopes set too high for Kimberly Locke's opening performance...I want something to knock my socks off, ya know...and she just lulled me instead.
Date: 4/22/2003 7:50:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53836    AngelEyez, I really liked your website, you did a great job
Date: 4/22/2003 7:52:00 PM  From Authorid: 45948    Thank you very much!! Love,
Date: 4/22/2003 7:54:00 PM  From Authorid: 13119    I totally agree with the people who have said that Josh is still on because he is a marine, there is a huge hype because he is. Honestly have you seen any of the others do anything like a pushup contest with simon? He does need to go.
Date: 4/22/2003 7:55:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53836    DMK, thank you for that comment, and I miss Rickey too, that was highway robbery...the votes going to the girls should've gone to him...plus everyone's voting for CLay and Ruben when it's so obvious they are safe...too bad for Rickey, I wish him the best!!
Date: 4/22/2003 7:57:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53836    LOL @ Magoo!!
Date: 4/23/2003 1:57:00 PM  From Authorid: 53961    Personally I think that it was rude of the guys to say that there was no way that Carmen could win this competition. Just plain rude and coarse.
Date: 4/23/2003 1:58:00 PM  From Authorid: 53961    Tonight will be interesting... Getting thin...
Date: 4/23/2003 3:07:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53836    sometime the truth hurts...I don't see how she could ever beat out Clay & Ruuuuuuuuuuben! Sorry to disagree, yeah, maybe it's harsh, but she needs work.
Date: 4/23/2003 3:08:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53836    oh...and she should've left instead of Ricky, 2 weeks ago.
Date: 4/26/2003 12:13:00 AM  From Authorid: 20104    I am not surprised that Carmen got kicked off. I think the top 3 were correct on wednesday. Clay, Ruben, and Kimberly. I have always been a huge fan of Kimerly's and I nkow she deserved the praise she got. I really hope she makes it to #2 if not #1.
