Yeah I agree with Becky,I am very happy with the man's decision, that was comepletely rude, what happens if that firefighter was a dog?Would he wanna have his owner told not to go in there and get another dog?Stupid. |

He's a hero and shouldn't be treated this way. It's just a shame. I hope the case is dismissed. Would they be doing this if he had saved his kid? I doubt it. Think of how bad that would make them look. If you ask me, they aren't looking very good right now, either. |

Anyone who risks their life to save another, whether its a dog/cat/another human etc, IS A HERO. |

If he didn't make it out, a firefighter would have had to go in after him, and the life of an animal isn't usually considered 'worth it'. But, since he's a hero, they probably only arrested him out of obligation to do so. I doubt he'll do any real time. |

I agree with Sagi he risked his own life for his beloved "friend". It shouldn't matter if the friend were animal or human. I would have no regrets in having a jail record to save one of my "babies". ~Gabrielle~ |

There's another side to this story though. In saving his pets life he risked not only his own life but the life of firefighters who were fighting the blaze, He was told not to cross the security line but he grabbed one of the firefighters tools and ran and broke a sliding glass door. This could have caused a backdraft and was a dangerous thing to do. I am glad he rescued his dog and everything turned out ok but I can see why he was arrested. Being a firefighter is a dangerous job and they don't need citizens running in and trying to take matters in their own hands because it endangers lives. I really understand both sides of this story and I'm glad the dog is ok. The firefighters had told Mr Martin they would make a rescue attempt for the dog but he didn't want to wait and he went ahead and tried to save him himself. I doubt he'll get a very harsh sentence. |

I hate to be the voice of dissension here but, I agree that he should be charged. He didn't just put his life at risk to go after his pet he jeoprodized all the firefighters lifes. It is awesome that all turned out well but if it hadn't and some firefighter had to go in after him and the building collapsed on them do you honestly think they would still be calling him a hero? It is tragic when an animal is caught in the building but it is more tragic when someone's son or daughter has to go back in and rescue someone who wouldn't wait when they were told to. |

I can see your guys' points who think he should be sentenced, but couldn't a firefighter have stopped him before he got up to his apartment? I mean his window of his apartment was a good ways above the ground, couldn't a firefighter have stopped him before he got up there? |

but why should a firefighter have to risk his life for someone who is disobeying their word in the first place. he was told to wait. |

A few here say he endangered a firefighters life. He didnt, he endangered his own life. Fire fighters lives are in danger by the very nature of their job, every minute of every day. If a firefighter had subsequently acted to save this guys life, then that firefighter would be placing his own life in danger, by choice. They are not forced to do so, it is their choice. An individual acting to save life has that right in my view. Should it be against the law to save life, eg lets phone the appropiate rescue service then stand back and watch? Do ONLY those services have that right? It is easy to relegate the importance of life when it is NOT human. |

Sagi you obviously don't know about firefighters, that is there job to go in and rescue people that are in distress. To say that they have a choice is simplistic and very naive. Honestly have you ever seen a firefighter or rescue worker refuse to go back into a building because some fool went back in without waiting for the all clear. Firemen and women are some of the bravest people that a nation can have and yes there job is dangerous, and yes they know that, but it is there job and it doesn't have to be made any more dangerous by some person refusing to obey the law and endangering a human life. I do put a higher price on human life because it has a larger impact when a human dies. I am happy that the dog lived but seriously I think he should be charged for endangering the lifes of others. |

I agree that he should have gone back in if he wasn't already told to wait. but he wasn't just risking his life and that's the part that drives me. the men and women firefighters are the professionals, they know their jobs and shouldn't be exposed to anymore risks than need be. I am pretty sure that if someone did something that heightened the danger factor of your job then you would be angry. that is the whole point of this, if you allow one person to get away with this then what is to stop the next person or the next. One of these times it isn't going to have such a positive outcome, you need control over the scene and that is the only reason why he should be charged, for disobeying the law. |
