You may not hear of serial killers from outside your State or even country but here is one that will chill you to the bone!
Even though Beverly had failed many of her nursing exams, no one knew her history and the hospital that was in charge of three quarters of the child births in England, was understaffed. She so got a free ticket to do as she pleased with little to no suspician. It was odd how she didnt care when a baby died or that children never cried around her but it was dismissed to her nature as she was a naturally bitter woman.
Liam was the first. Feb 1991, he was brought in from chest pains and diagnosed as having a cold. Shortly after the parents got home they got a call to say he had worsened and was in intensive care but had recovered. They thought this was odd but trusted their son to be in good hands. Beverly was then left with him again and shortly after midnight he worsened again, this time with red blotches on his face and breathing problems. What had been normally a perfectly healthy baby died that night and nurses were puzzled as to why alarms didnt go off the second he stopped breathing. Beverly continued with her shift, no one asked her of the night and she had, in fact, killed little Liam.
Beverly continued this behaviour on 9 more victims in the next few months, killing four of them! An eleven year old was next. Just two weeks later he came in after and epoleptic fit and went into cardiac arrest. This puzzled everyone as he had never had this before. Under Beverlys care he went blue, and died quietly.
2 Days later another baby, a year old, went into cardiac arrest in the same bed Liam had died in. They recovered her and transfered her to another hospital. There they found a hole in her arm and an air bubble in her blood. No investigation was carried out.
In the next four days Beverly struck again to three more children. One of the children was transferred again, with the odd fact that his blood-sugar level kept dropping. He nearly died 3 times but lived. The next was 5 years old, came in for a minor heart attack and once again, had oddly high insulin levels. This just didnt make sense to doctors but nurses were never suspected. He was transferred and also lived. A one year old boy was next, with physical injuries he also suffered an arrest of some sort. He too survived when transferred. He had two attacks in one night, both under Beverlys watch.
Beverly then moved onto twins!
Two premiturely born twins were in the hospital when Beverly yelled to a nurse that one was cold. The nurse found nothing wrong and shortly after both the children were allowed to go home. Once home, one of the children went into an attack and died. The parents did all they could. No reasoning was found to why the baby died. The other baby was then brought back in for tests and taken to another hospital, but who would have to be on staff but Beverly... Sure enough, it was a matter of time before Beverly was running into surgery screaming "Cardiac arrest"
The little baby did survive but with broken ribs, a collasped lung and brain damage from lack of oxygen. The mother of the baby was so grateful to Beverly for saving her that she asked her to be the babies God Mother! Beverly accepted in honour and shone in glory when infact, she had almost killed the child.
Four more children went into attacks after that, and all survived but whispers began. How could so many kids suffer all the same way under one nurses care? Then finally, the death of another child made people take it seriously, they realised something was very very wrong.
An asthmatic child was brought in and left with Beverly for just a few minutes, immediately she suffered a heart attack. The doctors came in and revived her, then they all left and it happened again... the doctors lost her this time and one doctor admitted that it should have never happened. He was right!
Tests showed the baby died of natural causes but the doctor looked into Beverlys ward and the high number of cardiac arrests over the last 2 months. They checked the air for viruses, the beds for germs and the equipment for malfunctions... 18 days later, the police were called in.
Lignocaine was found in the babies blood. This was an agent used to enhance cardiac arrests but never in a baby. They then knew they had a killer on their hands. They then set up a camera, noticed the drug being stolen and Beverly actually pretended and reported the drug store room key missing some time ago. Pages were also ripped out of the nursing log, which was highly suspicous. They soon realised Beverly was the only one that it could have been and she was arrested immediately.
The family in which she was God Mother too hired a detective to free her but they soon wished they hadnt and the missing pages of the log were found in her home. Her back ground was the last to be looked into and they realised Beverly had a mental illness.
Munchausen Syndrome and Munchausen by Proxy syndrome was found to be what she suffered from. Its an attention seeking illness mostly with many more symptoms to go with it. people who suffer from Munchausen syndrome generally present dramatic symptoms, including serious self-mutilation or injecting themselves with a toxin. Often, they return to a healthcare facility over and over. They mostly just seek attention and care, although a small percentage of them have a different motive: they want to baffle a physician so they can feel powerful. If the medical staff at one place suspects fakery, the patient moves on to another.(Crimelibrary.com)
Even as a child, Beverly would wear bandages for attention but never allow examination. With a long history of self mutaliations, the doctors at her home town refused to help her after some time. She wanted operations that just were not necessary. So, she became a nurse.
When her own fake illnesses were no longer bringing attention, she moved to children. Hurting the child, then saving it, gave her a sense of wellbeing, of heroism.
Beverly was visited in prison and trialled for 4 counts of murder. She refused to admit she did anything at all, said the mothers did it all. She has no idea she has a problem. Finally her sentence was stretched to 13 attempted murders which was the harshest sentence ever given to a woman. She continues to injure herself in prison for attention and eventually admitted to trying to kill all those children. In jail, she rots, in England, she is one of their worst female offenders ever.
