Wow, I actually have OCD also. I still line up my books and things parallel with each other. Biggest book on the bottom and smallest book on the top. I have my buddy list alphabatized, odd numbers really really bother me and if my TV volume is on an odd number I have to turn it up one or down one unless it's a multiple of 5 (for some reason multiples of 5 don't bother me) I never have done the checking doors thing though. Right now I'm trying to over come it by seeing a therapist which is strange for me lol. Anyway interesting post Frank, glad to hear I'm not alone lol :P |

Hmmm for a minute there Frank I was gonna say early signs of senility..... But then again I know people who are like that. Some have gotten over the trival stuff such as books but Keys, locks, and the stove is ok. |

Bach Flower remedies..completely harmless and helpful even if you don't believe they'll work. I have a kid in one of my classes with the worst case of OCD I have ever seen (it takes him 20 mins to actually seat himself due to all the rituals he has to go through), he uses these remedies on days when he is REALLY bad and they definately help. |

I think I have this also,I have to recheck and check the locks at times or doubt myself and have to recheck the oven,I have to recheck a paper I have in my pocket over and over to make sure it is there or even when mailing things I had to reopen a letter once to make sure I saw the money order in there I used to be in bed and I would have to get up and recheck things or else my mind would continue to keep bugging me..I just say to myself NO I saw it where it is supposed to be I am not getting out of bed to look again,so far it is helping, I give myself the mental pictures of myself doing the action for whatever I think I did not do |

Well my grandma and my sister have OCD. My lil sis used to cry if her earrings werent *right* and to this day she obsessvily brushes and cares for her hair so its always in place like a mint condition barbie dolls lol! She used to take meds but she dont anymore... Now my granda has it I know she does! The woman everyday *EVERY* cleans her 3 story house (which me, her, and grandpa live in, and i stay in the basment, no one usually goes upstairs and the living room is where they reside) top to bottom everyday! I mean she washes walls and windows and dusts and does laundry yet she doesnt have to, because shes obsessed with making sure its not *dirty* she needs meds lol...So nope no one in my family has overcome it, but just with time my sister has gotten a *lil* better in someways and worse in others lol! |

my mother had it... mostly with cleaning and control... if the house isn't perfectly spotlessly clean(say the dog was playing with her toys and left them on the floor) it would drive her crazy... i admit it was horrid growing up with that.. she had to fight it for many years and now she is in tharapy |

My husband is the same way.....he has to make sure the house is immaculate, not a speck of dirt anywhere, everything has to be in a specific order in the closets and drawers, the car has to be parked in the same place in the driveway....It get's very frusterating living with him,but I have learned to just overlook it most of the time. THanks for the imput from the "other" side of it. I thought it was just me that got frusterated, but now I see he does too. |

Frank, I thought this was another funny post of yours. I am surprised that you are like that. Very interesting. Have you seen the movie: "As Good As It Gets"? Jack Nicholson plays the man with Obsessive/Compulsive Disorder. It is a very funny movie. Good post! And... thanks for letting us know. Hugs, |

I had something like that. I always had to put things in a perfect place. My sister also used to have it. We overcame it by just ignoring it, kinda. We just....stopped. I guess if you stop thinking about it, you'll eventually stop. It's a horrible habbit. I hated having to go through that. |

Both of my parents have it..my mom was able to overcome it but she still is obsessive in ways. I've never talked to anyone about it..atleast not in depth. I can tell you that I know what it's like to see people stare and look and make fun of you because of it..that has really hurt me growing up..even family members have made mean remarks to me about my parents. I don't understand how some people can be so cruel and not understand..ya know? I absolutely hate the words mental illness..I'm sure most people imagine a person in a straight jacket drooling on themselves when they hear these two words..which is not the case whatsoever. I take the subject mental illness very seriously..my defenses go up when people start making fun of others who suffer from it. But anyway..enough of my ramblings..if you ever want to talk about it Frank you can msg me. Take care buddy. |
