Is it OK to copyright God's Word.

This came from a debate two or three days ago, from an basically unrelated debate, but in a way it was related to the topic, someone asked show where in the Bible there is a copyright by God. It got me thinking, is it really ok to CopyRight the Bible, or a translation of the Bible. I say that it is wrong to copyright something like the bible. Every English version of the Bible is copyrighted except for the King James.

Here is why I say that copyright a Bible is wrong. The Bible is God's Word, and God did write it. You will find that in 2 Timothy 3:16. By copyrighting, you are saying that it is your Words and NOT God's. You are in reality stealing from God.

God would not want his word to be copyright, Look at Psalm 119:105 and 119:05, we are to hide his word in our hearts so we may not sin against God. That is saying that we need to remember his word and quote it when nessary. I guess that violates the Copyright.

What do you think, should people be allowed to Copyright something like the Bible.

I would like to ask for your opinion on this, do not go off track.

Date: 4/7/2003 7:59:00 PM  From Authorid: 10798    You know, I personally think it's wrong. I believe the Bible was given by God to all of us and those who copyright their translations (and they do it for greed), are greatly in error...to say the least. The Bible should be free to all to copy and publish scriptures wherever needed.
Date: 4/8/2003 9:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 15070    what do I think? I think if you get all legalistic & concern yourself with the small things, you are missing the big picture. That is my opinion. The important thing about the Bible, is it's message, whether divine word, or man's understanding of what he (man) believes God wants. How that word is shared is not important. Interesting post.....
Date: 4/9/2003 5:16:00 PM  From Authorid: 58030    i asked it, and i didn't mean it like this, but why get all legallistic on something that legally can't be explained, why get scientific and exact with something that cannot scientifically be explained
Date: 4/12/2003 10:46:00 AM  From Authorid: 29928    God wrote His word so that the world would know about Him. How can that be done if others don't share the word with them? And I don't think God is going to hire an attorney to sue for copyright infringement. The whole purpose of the bible is to enlighten the world.
