Finally made it to the doctor :-) ~Spoiled Babygurl~

A few days ago, I posted a message about going to the doctor to see if she would refer me to a therapist. I was past due for my yearly check-up so I went on in today.

My usual doctor called in sick so I had to see one that I have never seen before. I discovered alot from this woman! For one she is darn good and knows what she is talking about..

First thing she asked was why my cheeks were so puffy. I told her that I had a severe headache last night and couldn't sleep. She asked how often this happens and I said at least twice a week.

She then asked me what helped soothed my headache.. I told her that I have to go into a dark room, with no sound at all and lay for 30 mins. I also told her that I will sometimes get sick at my stomach over my head hurting.

She asked me what my usual doctor did to try and help this and I told her that she just keeps changing my birth control pills because she thought it was that doing it. She said, "Oh my goodness, it is not your birth control pills, you have a severe migraine disability!"

She went on to ask me further questions.. Without me even mentioning to see a therapist she brought it up to me. Because of my mood swings, anger and depression. She hasn't referred me yet, because there is a 3 month waiting period right now to this place..

She decided it would be a great idea if I had a thyroid test done also. She went on to metion that I need to quit smoking, so she is also gonna help me with this. She switched my birth control pills to Ortho Tri-Cyclen because my face was breaking out bad with the other pills. She really pushed the birth control patch on me big time also, because she said it keeps a steady amount of hormones going thru your body better than the pill does.

So, I only have one month of these pills and then I have to go back to her and decide which way I wanna go with this. She gave me some more Buspar but lowed the dose, because the last dose I had made me not care about anything. She also gave me some Trazodone, she said this was to help me sleep, but I later found out it is an antidepression medicine.

I only got samples of the migraine medicine which is Zomig. She said if that helped my headaches then she would give me a prescription for them. This doctor really opened my eyes, my old doctor never really spent time trying to figure out what was going on. So, I now have a new doctor :-)

I just thought I would share this with ya. My arm is so sore tho.. they blew out my vein while taking blood.. :-( I should know the results to my thyroid test tomorrow..

Thanks for reading!

Date: 4/3/2003 4:32:00 PM  From Authorid: 48877    Sounds like I need to go see her. I have severe migraines and my doctor hasn't even offered any samples of meds to try for them. I also have trouble sleeping and told her my sleeping pills were not working anymore. It went in one ear and out the other. The one good thing she did was test my thyroid and discovered that it was underactive. Thanks for this post. It reminded me to get started on finding a new doctor. I hope that you get everything fixed up soon, and start feeling better. Take care.

Date: 4/3/2003 7:36:00 PM  From Authorid: 24845    I"m glad that you found a doctor that you like. It's always good to find one that cares isn't it? My daughter has a birth defect that makes her thyroid gland not produce the hormones T4 and TSH. If her medication is off even a little it'll cause her to have mood swings. Boy can she be weepy one minute, laughing the next. She's very dramatic anyway but man! when these moods hit her she's nearly inconsolable. I wish you such luck. If you find out anything about your thyroid and have a few questions I might be able to help. Just message me and we'll chat. Good Luck.
Date: 4/3/2003 8:23:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 61893    Thanks alot Angel2001! I should find out something tomorrow about it, I hope all is fine tho. As soon as I find out the results, I will let you all know Guess I better try to sleep some if I can.. Thanks again!
Date: 4/4/2003 12:21:00 AM  From Authorid: 18516    I suffer from Migraines too..I started having them when I was 10 and have had them now for about 9 years..I'm on medication for mine which I take every night..I'm taking Elavil and Nadolol and when I do get a migraine I take a Frova...I've tried Zomig and it did nothing for my headaches. Of course I've been on Imitrex, Zomig, Toradol, Maxalt (oral tablet that melts on your tongue), Maxalt (the regular pill), & Axert. And I was taken off of Calan SR and put on Nadolol. I'm also on birth control for severe cramps and menstral migraines. My doctor was telling me about the patch also..I haven't tried it tho. I'm also taking a low dose of Celexa which is an anti-depressant..I'm taking it because I have no energy and am tired all the time (which is most likely caused by my migraine medications) I'm glad you found a doctor you like..those are hard to find nowadays..lol
