Date: 3/24/2003 10:24:00 PM From Authorid: 16916 Well as for children, parents shouldbe regulating the amount of information they are getting from tv about the war and try to tell them the truth in a more sensored way. I do think that they should show it, I do think that it does motivate people towards hating all Iraqi people, but we need to know what is happening. I am against war that makes me even more against war but I still want to know what is happening to our people. I am more leaning toward sensoring it for children that are channel surfing on a saturday morning, turing to CNN only to see our people dead or beaten. Adults dont look if you dont want to but children are going to and yes it COULD corrupt them mentally. It could be anyone out there..and of course they know that it could be there mommy or daddy if they are in Iraq right now. SO I guess my position is, show it...it is up to you if you want to watch or not and for GOD SAKE watch what your children are seeing on TV. |
Date: 3/24/2003 10:27:00 PM ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15070 yes, Jelli Bean-I agree!!!I found the images on the internet. I just came back from seeing them. I feel sick right now.......sick to my soul. |
Date: 3/24/2003 10:30:00 PM From Authorid: 16916 It definatly makes me ill to know and see what is happening to our people..I feel so frustrated I wanna go over there and help! But in a way im glad im here..you know? I have yet to look at any pictures...I dont know how I will feel afterwards..I think I might feel guilty that I cant help...and I guess I really dontunderstand how they could hurt our people like that so I guess I am one of the people that say..if you wanna see it go ahead but I think ill pass |
Date: 3/24/2003 10:45:00 PM ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15070 my teeth are actually chattering. I cannot look at those again. I am a former nurse, and I have seen alot. I can stomach near anything. Torture, I cannot. Human monsters scare me a thousand times more than the "inhuman ones". *sigh* I knew it would happen. I am terrifyed for that poor female P.O.W....... |
Date: 3/24/2003 10:53:00 PM From Authorid: 16916 OH I know...God only knows what they could do to her...Grr I just wanna go save them!! |
Date: 3/24/2003 10:59:00 PM From Authorid: 53427 I see your point and I do agree that people should know how cruelly the soldiers are treated. But it makes me wonder how this would impact their family and friends. I don't think I could watch those tapes if it were my loved one. I saw those soldiers on tv tonight that were captured just staring at the camera looking so scared and my heart just broke for them. |
Date: 3/24/2003 11:10:00 PM From Authorid: 3321 No. Its disrespectful and it is an established war crime. |
Date: 3/25/2003 3:39:00 AM From Authorid: 47296 From a veteran and someone who has friends and family in country, an absolute no. We all the know the potential treatment that POWs will recieve at the enemy hands. Knowing it in the back of your mind is one thing. Seeing it outright televised for the world to see is another. What Iraq is doing is a propaganda tactic used to break the moral of those at home who support the troops. What they are doing is not only agsinst the Geneva Convention, it is against the Laws of War. I believe one reason we have not taken out the Iraqi broadcasting system yet is to keep a feel for what is happening in Baghdad. After the last couple of days, I think it is time we took out that sytem. Everyone has their opinions on this, but we do have conventions and laws that cover it, as well as every aspect of modern warfare. They are there for a reason, and should be upheld to the highest. |
Date: 3/25/2003 5:30:00 AM From Authorid: 24856 I do not believe ANY news people should be involved......to have them attached to the military and riding into battle to give us a blow by blow account is wrong. War is ugly and should not be televised daily. Remember Viet Nam??? The public did turn against it once they could see nothing was being done in Nam. To view POW's is wrong......the Iraqis feed on this stuff, why give it to them so easily at the expense of our POW's? |
Date: 3/25/2003 6:26:00 AM From Authorid: 59418 I think these images should be available, but you shouldn't be forced to see them if you don't want. I think it would remind people of how cruel war can be. I seriously do not know if i would look at them...I don't know how disturbing the images would be. I don't think it would encourage the enemy, i mean more people will turn against them for doing these horrible things to P.o.w's. It really depends whether if will do harm or good. It would be good in the sense that it would let you see just how evil the enemy are, but i think also bad because, it would give everyone nightmares, and it is just...unthinkable... |
Date: 3/25/2003 9:01:00 AM From Authorid: 62003 Ignorence can be bliss the less I know about the war the better I feel. I have family and friends that are military and I don't think I could emotionaly handle seeing them leave for war or the middle east if I knew what was really going on. If they broadcast Americans being tortured on TV I'd program my TV to automatically skip over those channels that play news all day long. Sorry I can't handle this stuff well at all. Lily Fairy |

1) I don't think we should show it. News stations will show it for the WRONG resons...they do it for ratings. 2) I have no intention of looking but I think if I was flipping thorugh the chanels and came across it, it would be hard NOT to, because it's just human nature to. However, I think I would regret it if I did, I don't want images like that stuck in my head. I mean, I already know about it, but seeing it is another story. 3)I think it owuld encoruage him. 4) If it didn't, then there are some sick people out there. 5) I think it depends on the person. I am already so angry at Saddam, I think Id go through the roof. |
Date: 3/25/2003 2:33:00 PM From Authorid: 17204 There are just some things the public doesn't need to know. That stuff used to be top secret, what happen to that? |
Date: 3/25/2003 4:37:00 PM From Authorid: 27270 I think that the coverage and photos that CNN, etc. is showing now are appropriate. It accurately conveys that this is terrible, yet spares us the mental anguish it can cause. Children can't be watched 24 hrs. a day, so it's better not to make it readily available. Now, you CAN find it on the net, I did. I let my curiousity get the best of me, but in NO WAY SHAPE OR FASHION DID I EXPECT WHAT I SAW. LSG, you are 100% right, this will shake a person to their very bones. Seeing these images will make you forget every single thing except the picture in front of you. The page wasn't even 1/4 finished loading, and I had seen enough, I actually felt like I would throw up. It ain't TV, folks, and to be honest, I realized at that moment how naive I am to the horrors not only in war, but in life that I can almost deny even exist. I will never, ever, EVER erase those images from my mind. Ever. I am for this war, but these photos didn't make me madder, they didn't fill me with hate, they didn't make me more or less "Pro-War", they made me....frozen? numb? in denial? horrified, nauseous, I can't even tell you what! Like I said, you will forget everything except the carnage you see*shudders*, sorry so long, but wow I've been NEEDING to talk about that since the other day..... |
Date: 3/25/2003 8:12:00 PM From Authorid: 27403 I just saw one of the 1991 POW's that was held in Iraq and was shown on TV then. He said that he thinks it is a very good thing for them to show the POW's because it makes it much much more likely they will come home. It is the ones you never see that they can torture and kill. That is a very good point and one that I had not thought of! Love and Light |
Date: 3/26/2003 5:20:00 AM From Authorid: 38474 I totally agree with Warrior Spirit on this. I have a cousin over there right now and I would not want to see images of her dead or being tortured. |
