My freshman year in college, I had a biology teacher named Dr. Broadhurst who was a nice man, but a little strange. He was a tall man with thick glasses, and always wore suits that were about 40 years old. He looked like he was a throwback to the 1930s-1940s with his thick wool jackets or pinstriped trousers. It didn't help that the college building he was teaching in was over 100 years old, either! My first semester with him was good, and I aced the class, as did most of the other students. The second semester was really tough though; I think he decided that since we did so well he should double our workload. We were struggling to keep up, and we began to nurse a hatred against him.
So, one day I walked into class about ten minutes late, apologized, and took a seat at the rear of the class. As I listened to his lecture, I became aware of a sense of mirth in the room. I looked around, and saw everybody sitting up bright and cheerful, many of them with smiles on their faces. I was puzzled, until I looked up to the front of the room, and saw it: Dr. Broadhurst was wearing a green corduroy suit (circa 1948), and it was very neat, hardly a wrinkle to be seen; but his fly was open!!!
I looked at my friend Kathy, and her eyes told me everything. We sat back and listened to the most enjoyable science lecture in weeks!
The truly embarrassing thing, though, was later when we were standing in line in the cafeteria and talking about it, I saw him three people back, with a grim look on his face! He must have heard us, because he stormed out of the dining hall!
Whoops!
