Hey! Ok in my Microsoft Office class at school, every Friday someone has to bring in a speaker to talk about their job. Well, this Friday we had a Social Worker come in to talk to us. Now she was telling us about how if a person gets convicted of assault, and stuff to that matter, that they get 90 days in jail. But if a person from Wisconsin deposits pop bottles in the state of Michigan, then they get 93 days in jail. Is it just me or does this NOT seem fair?!

Date: 3/22/2003 7:57:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 33573    Thats like saying depositing bottles in another state is worse than assault.
Date: 3/22/2003 7:57:00 PM  From Authorid: 24845    That doesn't sound fair at all. Did you know here where I live you get less for Child Molestation? That is so sick. I don't get it at all. It seems like some people need to go back and straighten out some laws in places.
Date: 3/22/2003 7:58:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 33573    Less for molesting children! Ok I don't get it?
Date: 3/22/2003 8:03:00 PM  From Authorid: 16845    deposits pop bottles? huh? Like turning them in for change?
Date: 3/22/2003 8:08:00 PM  From Authorid: 36704    A lot of the laws are messed up,in the state I live, child molestation gets a minimum of three years, possessing child pornography gets a minimum of two hundred. Both are disgusting but I think the one who actually perpetrated the act should get more time than the one who had the material but didn't act on it.
Date: 3/23/2003 3:15:00 AM  From Authorid: 36901    What is the big deal about depositing soda bottles? Why in the heck would that be illegal? Did I miss something?
Date: 3/23/2003 7:52:00 AM  From Authorid: 21294    Simply silly and yet sounds about normal. Some of the old laws in many states still apply today. Such as in a state (I have forgotten which one,)it is against the law to kiss in public. Think it's time to review a few laws in A LOT of states. DreamWalker
Date: 3/23/2003 7:56:00 AM  From Authorid: 1799    ok..wait, they get 93 days for what? what is that? lol.
Date: 3/23/2003 8:02:00 AM  ( Admin-JGB )   wow.. nope it doesn't seem right, puts such a little value on the victim, but hey, that isn't anything new huh? we knowingly release predator sex offenders into society too!... hmmm that's sane.
Date: 3/23/2003 8:05:00 AM  From Authorid: 27403    Idiot laws! Love and Light

Date: 3/23/2003 10:58:00 AM  From Authorid: 22080    and why do you even get arrested for depositing soda bottles?
Date: 3/23/2003 11:22:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 33573    Oh ok! Lol ... let me explain! In the State of Michigan you can return pop bottles for 10 cents a piece. But if people from other states come into Michigan from other states and return bottles it is illegal. Don't ask why!
Date: 3/23/2003 1:29:00 PM  From Authorid: 53182    This is very Bizzar....Thourghly strange...Im perplexed.....weird....-the lost boy

Date: 3/23/2003 4:44:00 PM  From Authorid: 57723    thats stupid

Date: 3/23/2003 7:21:00 PM  From Authorid: 55967    They probably want to discourage the potential ongoing practice of someone from another state where the return policy is nonexistant (thus creating a horde of free empty bottles) from taking advantage of Michigan's program by making an easy profit week after week, and thus needing the penalty to be enough that it would not be worth the risk. If the penalty were, say, a $50 fine, the perp might think he can make that up anyway, and keep going. There is a thing in this country about anyone finding ways to make profits from nothing. Also, about other laws that don't seem fair across the country, one must remember that a lot of laws people live under are individual state laws, and not federal. This means that if someone in Pennsylvania, where I live, finds it unfair that the laws are different in Utah, they might as well look at laws in Argentina too, since federal laws would not apply; only individual state laws. ~GypsyHawk~
Date: 3/23/2003 8:09:00 PM  From Authorid: 31048    Well, of course we don't want those dangerous Pop-Bottle-Depositors on the loose!! Heck, if they deposit their bottles in the wrong state, there's just no telling what they're capable of. LOL, that's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.
Date: 3/24/2003 10:32:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 33573    Lol ... yeah ya just never know!
