Would you say I over reacted?? Gentel Breeze

This happened yesterday. I went to school to pick my children up same as usual. I walked down the hall way and was about to go into the office. Out of the corner of my eye I see my son. Out of no where this teacher came running up behind him grabbing the back of his shirt. She says to him and another boy, and I quote, "You better hope you two don't get me next year, I have your number and I will not forget." So, I went into the office and found out her name. Got my son, went to her class and asked her if she knew me. Of course she said no. When she saw my son her jaw about hit the floor. She tried to justify her actions by saying they should have stayed with their class. I agreed to that. I asked her what kind of a teacher would say something like that none the less grab a child shirt. Her reply was she was more or less directing towards the other child. I politely told her if my son gets her next year it better not be a problem because I will not forget. Do you guys think I over reacted, honestly? I might have, but to see someone else man handle my child got under my skin. Thanks for taking the time to read this. Gentel Breeze

Date: 3/22/2003 4:46:00 PM  From Authorid: 53055    No, you didn't overreact. I'd have done the same thing if I had a kid.
Date: 3/22/2003 4:46:00 PM  From Authorid: 60945    OMG! no you did the right thing! My mom would FLIP OUT if some teacher did that to me or my lil bro! Of course if a teacher did that to me, I'd probably punch him/her *blushes* but that's just me... O
Date: 3/22/2003 4:47:00 PM  From Authorid: 42945    no, I dont think you over reacted hun, I would have said exactly the same thing to her...hugs
Date: 3/22/2003 4:50:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53013    Thanks guys. I don't usually do things like that, but I will rumble with anyone that touches my babies!
Date: 3/22/2003 4:51:00 PM  From Authorid: 16916    Wow I think I would have WENT OFF! Nobody should touch a child that is not theres. How dare she, and then threaten them...hmmm LOL No I dont think you overreacted I probably would have taken it over her head...grrrrrr LOL Maybe its because I am still a student and my teachers are so mean that I have a problem with teachers and thinking that they are the childrens mothers. I think you did a great job and got your point across..I probably would have overeacted LOL
Date: 3/22/2003 4:59:00 PM  From Authorid: 57471    I would have done the exact same thing. Asked the name and then confronted her. You confronted her nicely I would have totally went off. Who does she think she is touching a child out of anger. It is said that you should be touched 17 times daily to remain mentally healthy but when someone touches a child like you described the teacher doing to your son that does far more harm. -jenn
Date: 3/22/2003 5:07:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53013    JellieBean I am one to confront the person, not go over their heads. That way they hear it from me. Thank you for your comment. It took alot for me to keep my composure, JenniferAnna. Thank you for your comment, as well.
Date: 3/22/2003 5:09:00 PM  From Authorid: 18527    ouch, I think I would have hit her well not really but I would have thought about it!
Date: 3/22/2003 5:14:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53013    Trust me, Kethria, the thought had crossed my mind, but I had to make my point and still be an adult.
Date: 3/22/2003 5:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 16916    Well I would have confronted them and then went over there heads..LOL I told you I would have overreacted LOL
Date: 3/22/2003 5:26:00 PM  From Authorid: 3688    if it was my kid...i'd have done my darndest to get her fired, so, nope ya didn't overreact
Date: 3/22/2003 5:31:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53013    Now that I think about it, I should have made her apologize, LOL. Thanks Dreamer and JellieBean.
Date: 3/22/2003 5:37:00 PM  From Authorid: 61966    I don't think you over reacted at all. That teacher shouldn't have grabbed your son like that!! When I was in the 3rd the Phys ed coach picked this kid up by the back of his shirt and and took him over to the other side of the gym just because he wasn't on the right team. Someone reported him for that and some other things and he ended up getting fired, he deserved it! He wasn't a very nice person. -BreathingBody
Date: 3/22/2003 5:42:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53013    I thought teachers were there to teach. What message is this sending to children? Thanks for your comment BB.
Date: 3/22/2003 6:03:00 PM  From Authorid: 35114    Nope, not at all. I would have done the same.
Date: 3/22/2003 6:06:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53013    Thank you KawiiNeko.
Date: 3/22/2003 6:12:00 PM  From Authorid: 28946    You did the right thing and maybe you still need to bring it to the principal's, the school board and the school adminitrations notice. That is not appropriate behavior from a teacher.
Date: 3/22/2003 6:17:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53013    I just may do that, Penny. I am still aggrovated by this.
Date: 3/22/2003 6:55:00 PM  From Authorid: 52679    i dont think you over reacted at all...i say good job, many people wouldnt have had the guts to do it
Date: 3/22/2003 6:56:00 PM  From Authorid: 25828    you acted more calmly than i would have.
Date: 3/22/2003 7:01:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53013    Thanks DarkFire and Heather. I don't even know why I am doubting myself. My son even told me I did good.
Date: 3/22/2003 7:06:00 PM  From Authorid: 61893    My daughter had a teacher like that when she was in Kindergarten. I had words with this teacher, but I keep my cool the whole time. I just let her know that I would be watching her, and asking my child, "How was school?" VERY often. I ended our conversation by saying, "Mrs. Smith, you don't want to pi$$ me off, Good day." Smiled and walked out. You didn't over react at all, teachers like that need a "rude" wake up call.
Date: 3/22/2003 7:14:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53013    Thanks Spoiled. I thought I was the only mom who might "threaten" a teacher.
Date: 3/22/2003 7:56:00 PM  From Authorid: 11721    Heck no I think I'd had to say a few other things to her too! I'm not sure she's allowed to "grab" his shirt!
Date: 3/22/2003 10:08:00 PM  From Authorid: 15070    not at all-in fact, you showed restraint
Date: 3/23/2003 1:57:00 AM  From Authorid: 56287    No i don't think you over reacted at all, some teachers think they have the right to do whatever they like. If i were you i'd have said that if she ever touched your child again you'd report her. love
Date: 3/23/2003 4:14:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53013    Thank you Brina, LSG, and Lucy.
