We, as a society, are becoming more and more aware of the severity of post pardum syndrome and the effect it can have on some women. This would explain many of these deaths.  |

About a year ago a women here drove herself and her three children into the river and they all drowned. She apparently had been suffering from this. |

i guess i just have to ask why now? this has had to have been happing for ever right? so why are we really hearing about it now? is it because of our so called JUSTICE system, in that they " the lawyers" are coming up with new ways to get people off.. in that i mean with all the stupid things that have gone to court and WON these days is this the reason we are now hearing of these women having this horrible depression? and by the stupid things i mentioned earilier i mean the cases like the person that sued mcdonalds for the hot coffee spilling, or the pickel that burned some ladys chin that won in court, oh theres so many you hear in everyday news that its crazy! i am just curious though as to why were just hearing so many women having this disorder and murdering their poor innocent children roseann  |

I agree with Zema. I know you can go batty with post natal depression but to kill your own child? The mother that drowned her children in the bathtub and the mother that drove her babies into the lake were just mental and selfish. A family member or neighbor should have intervened before it ever got that far.  |

And it isn't just the Western world. In India, China and a few other countries, babies are murdered just for being the wrong gender. Instead of birth control, they wait untill after the baby is born and just toss it in the bushes for a wild animal to dispose of or the elements to kill it. |

I wish someone would report signs of Post-Pardom. It is quite obvoius to all when this happens. And why doesn't the mother herself get help? I could not imagine in a milloin years seeing my baby die, by any means. This to me should cary a heavy sentence, death. If you are that bad, you should have gotten help. It is the fault of the mother she is this way. Not of society, not of depression. I have been Bi-Polar, (manic depresive) for yers. I do not use it as an excuse. AND I got help.  |

It is very horrible but the mothers are always pushed to that point by someone or something. They think the only way to save their child is to kill them.  |

Water-lily, nobody should ever kill their children. If a parent feels she is losing control and might hurt her babies, she should get help and it is her duty as a mother to at all costs, PROTECT her children. The father, in-laws doctor, neighbor should all be alert in case something seems odd. |

I remember a woman who suffers from a brain disease had to take pills that r not given to pregnant women,,,,so when she got pregnant she stopped taking them and u know wut that might meen for her *DEATH*,,,but she went thru the 9 months procedure without taking the drug and had a child!!She didnt want to kill her baby althought it couldve killed her.That is how mothers are,,,,Full of love and they wouldnt mind dying for the sake of their children. |

What really bothers me is that the world has child murderers that are not mothers or flesh and blood. They aren't given any medical excuses at all. Then you get a mother who supposedly has post-p depression and the bleeding hearts defend her. There is absolutely no excuse to kill your own child. The reason those mothers killed their children was not solely based on depression they were nothing but cold hearted. They are nothing different than some other individual killing a child they aren't related to....Hawk |

society,tells us that we are a product of our inviroment, which to me is a bunch of bunk. Many have gone outside their inviroment to become great people under all odds. Sure there are lots of sickness and disease that play with our mind, but its our responsiblity to deal with that. I have been manic depressive for years. Sure there were times when my kids were so awful as babies, me never getting any sleep or rest and I would have loved just to toss one out the window! BUT I controlled those urges just as anyone can control them and no I wasnt on medication. Dont take any now. I think that any mother given times of stress with their children may have an off thought about throwing them out the window. LOL, NOT that I could have ever did anything like that as my babies were preciouse to me. Besides the fact that I'm so over protective of them. Even grown as they are now, I still am. The need to protect was always stronger than the urge to throw one out the window. LOL I found it easier to take them to my sister when I just couldnt handle it anymore and needed some rest and she would watch them for a few hours or sometimes over night so I could get some sleep and get my mind back. We all have to deal with our own will power and take control, some cant do that and they kill their kids and I just can not for the LIFE of me figure out how in the world they can do it. They need to be locked up.  |

Roseann, I don't think these people are getting off the charges; they are being prosecuted. We are just trying to figure out why this depression exists. It is interesting as to why a mother becomes depressed and has thoughts of killing her child. ~GypsyHawk~  |

While I won't say Post Partum has never been the case, I will say that in 90% of the cases where that defense it used, it is not true. And if it is, there are a plethora of resources for people w/ this condition to seek help, so if you have 5 kids and decide 8 years down the road to drown them all, well then don't make excuses...at the end of the day it is your fault....  |

Yes, I agree mothers are linked with their children by flesh and blood. Let me rephrase for you so you can understand what I meant: Mothers are no different than a regular killer meaning that they are just as cold blooded and nuts. I meant that depression is no excuse, it is a cop out. In fact, a mother who kills her kid is probably worse than just an average joe killing a kid. |
