...some people became more well-known because they had a habit of passing out money. Some just had a habit of passing out. I fit into the second category although I am not one of the "well-knowns" at this site. |

it's intersting when you get your friends online in a chatroom and them not knowing who you are and see if they will befriend you and are nice to you or if they completely blow you off |

I have been here since 1999 and when I came here, it was small compared to what it is now. I found this place while I was looking for the TV Unsolved Mystery site. When this site first started it didn't have many rules..People were permitted to visit and comment without an ID..They were known as AA's(anonymous authors. We had no admins nor monitors. We didn't have a chat room nor any of the buttons on top..The menu was listed on the left side, but there were no where near as many categories. As USM grew and suggestions were made, so did the categories..In the old days most of the stories posted were intellectual ones. The debate section was added after some complained about being bashed and attacked in the religious section. This section almost saw it's end then. As for people becoming better known than others..From my own personal observations, many become more popular because they seem to have a more out going personality and have a desire to become better known. They make a lot of posts (many appealing to the younger crowd) and they comment frequently on other posts. The more you interact the more you become known. There has been posts as yours made and on those USMers say they heard about USM through friends, or by accident, just as I did. ..Anyway..Here's wishing you Happy Postings and many comments..((hugs)) |

There is a site where you can go and look at what websites looked like in the past, meaning from once it started to be a website and to what it is now. I don't have the link at the moment. But USM was small, very interesting also. You had to mail in (Snail Mail if I remember correctly) your post to George and Ginger, and then it'd be up the site. Don't take my word on that though, because I may be wrong. Then a year after that it was small, but still cozy and la la la.. now it's HUGE. With a lot of people comming here daily and replying and reading posts. I don't know if I am well-known, or even well-liked. But I'm usually online anyways because I talk to VampyreGerbil (My fiance) on AIM, and I'm online because of USM. I do have a large family, compared to some people here on USM.. But I usually atleast spend an hour here once a day when I'm busy, when I'm not I'm here for atleast 5-7 hours, if not more. What I think makes a person well-known is how they treat others. I mean trying not to leave rude comments to a poster even though you may be tempted to, lol (Guilty of leaving a rude or two comment actually..) and also just treating everyone with respect, even if you don't like them. Also there are a lot of people who pass this site link onto their friends and tell them to go here. I only have one of my friends here (VampyreCandy) She's the only one I wanted to come here.. other than that I don't want my family or other friends comming here, too awkward. |
