Guilt nawed at Steve as he listened to his sister crying that night across the hall from him. Maybe he shouldn't o fbeen so harsh, that girl truely seemed to care for his sister. He won't ever forget the crushed look at Alexis's face when he said never to come back.He felt like an org takeing a candy away from a baby. Shay didn't have many friends and could only go out tonight but even tonight she layed in her bed and cryed. Slowly getting to his feet he left his room and crossed to hers.careful to avoid the creaking boreds in the floor. He opened the door and all he saw was black. Her windows where painted over black so the sun's rays couldn't touch her and everything was precautioned her T.V was coated with a special surface and even her computer had a dimmer and she had dimmed lights. Her skin was so sensative anything could happen to her and she could die. A chill raced up his spine. That's what worried him so much, he loved her fiercely and couldn't stand to loose her. Steve walked in quietly and sat down on the bed beside her. She inched away from him a curled up more tightly into a ball.

"Shay...Shay look at me sweetheart" He pulled her into his arms. She fought like a cat on the loose kicking at him and punching his chest tears running from her puffy eyes.

"I hate you! I hate you Steve McCorins!"

"I know hunny...Shh listen to me" He reached behind him and handed her the blue dress as she quieted down.

"Wha...?" Shay looked up at him through blurry eyes.

"I was a jerk...don't ever repeat that word...and I want you to se eAlexis. I'd even like to spend soemtime with you guys" Hope built in her pretty blue eyes.

"You really mean it?"

"I do" He said with a nod of his head. She practically flew into his arms nad wraped ehr cool, pale arms around his neck.

"I love you Steve.Thank you so much" Her words where muffeled against his neck.

"Now lets get you outside little one"He picked her up and swung her off the bed and headed down stairs. They headed out the door and into the cool night breeze disappearing into the woods.

Alexis awoke to a muffeled sound. Groggily she sat up and rubbed her blery eyes. Clink Clink Clink Realizeing it was at her window and crossed to the room and opened the window sticking her head outside.

"What that...?"

"Hsst! Alexis it's us.Come down" Looking down she felt instant relief seeing Shay in her brothers arms. Her heart over field and she smiled.

"I'll be down in a moment." Hurridly Alexis shut the window and pulled on a pair of shorts and a pale blue hoodie and ran downstairs. As quietly as possibel she opened the door and snuck out to meet Steve and Shay. The little girl all but jumped into Alexis' arms. With a laugh she twirled Shay around hugging her nad planted a kiss on her cheek. Someone cleared there throat and she looked up into Steves handsome face.

"So....?"

"I ummm came to apologize" Steve said. she could of sworn she saw a blush grace his cheeks.

"Did you now?" He nodded

"Yes.I'm sorry for the way I treated you and the way I acted. I'm just so afaid for her I care so much about her.She has XP and children with it don't last long. Her allergy to the sun is very sever and I didn't want you to hurt her.I try to make her as happy a possibel I truely do" Steve smiled as the small hand slipped into his.

"I don't know exactly how you must feel, but I do love Shay. I would never, ever hurt her. Ever and I would do whatever it took to protect her.But I forgive you." Alexis smiled.

"Alright then we got a picknick planned do we not. Shall we go" He offered his arm galantly to both of them and they each stuck there hand into the crook of his arm. They headed off once again into the woods as the moon slide half way behind grey clouds.

About fifteen minutes later they reached there destination by the pond where a wiker basket awaited them. Together Shay and Alexis ran towards the basket and picked up the quilt and layed it out on the grass. Steve reached them and began to take out there little late nite lunch of cheeseburgers, fries, and some peach cobbler. He handed them all a coca cola and sat back as they ate there lunch , in a comfertabel silence. After finishing her lunch Shay bound up and headed for the edge of the pond to pick flowers.

"You be careful now Shaylyn Reann" Steve said. Shay looked up and beamed brightly.

"She's so adorabel so full of energy" Alexis said quietly.

"Yeah she is. Just like our momma was"

"Isn't she alive?"

"Who our momma?" Steve asked.

"Yeah" Steve looked down slightly.

"No she died about two years ago from cancer. But our papa is still around" Alexis put her hand on his arm. She knew how he felt haveing lost her father to cancer when she was ten.

"I"m sorry" He gave her a smiel and brushed his hand across her cheek and she blushed.Just then as if from out of no where chilling rain fell from the sky and poured down in thick sheets. Shay squeeled and dropped her flowers heading towards them.

"Hurry lets get this stuff in the basket and get home" Steve said. They all scurried around and packet up there picnic running back towards there house to drop Shay off dry int eh house.

"Aww can't I come too?"

"I'm only takeing Alexis home. You'd catch your death out here. Go to bed now Shay" Reluctantly Shay did as she was told and went abck inside.

Steve brought Alexis up to her back door and smiled the both of them soaked. The water had slowed down to barely a trickel and he reached up to tuck a wet strand of hair from her eye.

"I'll see you tomarrow then?" Alexis asked quietly. He nodded.

"Yeah" Slowly he leaned over and kissed her softly on the lips.Tentavly she layed her hands on his chest and kissed him back the kiss deepening. Gently he pulled away from her gently nipping on her lip. He gave her charming smile.

"Goodnight Alexis"

"Night Steve" Dazed Alexis disappeared into the dark house.

Comeing off the porch Steve rubbed his chest where he could still feel the imprint of her hand on his chest. He sighed. He couldn't get close to her not yet, he had to know needed to. He didn't want her to be like Charolen. With a shake of his head he headed home through the woods and back to the only true love of his life...Shay...
