My Little Friend Went Visiting!!

About 15 years ago, while I was going to college, I was living in an apartment which had a really bad cockroach problem. I'd tried everything: bait, poison, caulking up the holes, but nothing worked. Then, through a friend, I heard about Gecko Lizards! These lizards can be bought at stores, and they eat cockroaches! They have special feet which allow them to cling to walls, or even hang upside down, just for the record. But, they eat bugs! So, I drove to the nearest store and bought three of them! The pet store owner told me that the best place to release them was under my refrigerator, as they need warmth, and the condensor would keep them warm. Then, in the middle of the night, they would come out and chow down on the roaches. I did as he told me, and within a week or so, I stopped noticing the bugs! Sometimes when I came into the kitchen, I'd see something run across the wall, but it didn't bother me. Then, about two months later, I heard some screaming in the apartment next to mine and a lot banging, and I thought, "Great, Elaine [not her real name]'s having another lover's quarrel." But, that night, I ran into my neighbor on the stairs and what a story she told me! She explained how she'd been having trouble with her boyfriend's old girlfriend, and how she'd come into the kitchen in the morning to make breakfast, and found a lizard on her counter! She chased it around the kitchen, throwing pots and pans at it! She said it was *obviously* planted by her boyfriend's ex-girlfriend to get to them! She told me how she'd called up the woman in particular, and screamed at her for ten minutes! "She denied it, but I know she did it!" It took all of my willpower not to smile! But, it explained why I hadn't seen that particular little friend of mine! --Arion1
