Lovely Bones" By Alice Sebold<<< Shadowghost

Has anyone else read this? I finished it and still go back and read over parts again. The story is told in the voice of a fourteen year old girl. She describes her life, her rape, her murder, and then her heaven. She watches her family, her murderer, and explores her heaven. HER heaven. She tells how we don't really notice the dead leaving when they really choose to leave. We are not meant to. Sometimes we feel a them like a whisper, or compare it to the one in the back of a lecture hall or theater, only those closest to the door may notice. Painfully sad, but filled with the possibilities of what life is after death.

Date: 2/16/2003 9:54:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 12341    My daughter sent it to me, she had just finished it, and that came after a friend of mine told me about it. She is a doctor, from India, Hindu, but like me, interested in all the opinions and thoughts of others of life after death. I have heard several accounts from patients who have died and "come back". Most doctors and nurses have at one time or another in their career. This has nothing to do with the book, just emphasizing where the interest comes from, although this book will touch most readers. For a long time.
Date: 2/16/2003 10:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 28946    I haven't heard of this one, but then again I don't get to the library. I will ask my daughter if she might check it out for me.
Date: 2/16/2003 10:33:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 12341    Penny, this book comes close to what I believe Heaven would be like. And dying. I never knew until I read it, never believed that someone else could describe it the way I feel, that if Heaven exists, and life after death IS, then this is how I would have imagined it to be. A new experience, a longing for those loved ones left behind, a different meaning to be found, and then, that place in eternity that exists for each of us. Read it, if you can, it is GOOD!

Date: 2/17/2003 3:17:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 12341    Thanks Social Slacker, how did you feel after you read it, and did it "stay with you"? I keep thinking about it. Justice G, I rarely find a book that stays with me like this one, definitely read it if you can!
