The Kindness of Strangers to our family!---Update

On a cold rainy Sunday several weeks ago, my family and I went to an IHOP for breakfast. We had been living in a hotel for a week, house-hunting wasn't going well and we were getting on each others nerves. My 13 year old daughter was in a funk due to leaving her friends and beloved school, and she was dreading the start of a new school.

As we were sitting waiting for our food to arrive, the waitress came to our table and asked my husband if he was in the military. He said Yes and she told us that a couple who didn't want to be identified wanted us to know how much they apprecieted his service and wanted to buy our meal along with everyone else who was in the military who were eating in the restaruant. I couldn't believe it and burst into tears.

It really cheered our family up, I wish this couple could know that they gave us more than a free meal, but they added a much needed boost to our family.

But that isn't all that has happened to us.

My Uncle who I never see found out about my husband being deployed. He has a friend in Austin whom he was telling about our situation and she decided she wanted to do something for us before my husband left.

She is sending a limo to pick us up tomorrow to take us to a very nice restaruant where she will meet us for drinks and than leave us to enjoy our meal all paid for by her! Can you believe this??? I don't even know what to say I'm humbled and a little embarrassed all at the same time. I've talked to this lady several times on the phone and she wants me to visit her in Austin while Mike is gone and take me site seeing around the area.

I hardly even know what to say to all of this. But with people like this in the world, who can say things are rotten?? I know the days ahead are going to be pretty tough for my family, but I only have to think of the kindness these people have shown to complete strangers and have someting to smile about.

We had a wonderful time Last Thursday..A stretch Limo was sent to pick us up, my husband got me a dozen roses and we shared a bottle of champagne on the ride over, so we were feeling pretty good when we arrived for dinner. Barbara was waiting for us when we arrived and had a drink with us before leaving..I had primerib and a lobster tail...pretty darn good...After taking us home, the limo driver took the kids for a spin..you can check out the picture on the junkies website...you don't think my husbands hair is to long do you???

Date: 1/29/2003 10:21:00 AM  From Authorid: 23610    Hi, Kelly! It's good to hear from you and what a wonderful, uplifting post. People really can be so surprisingly kind, can't they? Have you found a place to live yet? I know what you mean about living in a hotel until you find a place to live. My sister's husband is in the Marines and they go through the same thing whenever he is stationed somewhere else. It can be a bumpy transition. Very nice post, Kelly. It's so nice to see the positive side of humanity.
Date: 1/29/2003 10:31:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15228    Hi Lady Nyx, actually we have found a wonderful place to live. It's the first time in 13 years we HAVEN'T lived in Post housing so we are all enjoying living in an actual house in an actual neighborhood. It is so quiet here it is downright strange, especially coming from a tank-training post. Several miles up the road live our former neighbors from Ft. Knox who was my youngest daughters best freind. We ate at a Bennigans not long after we arrived here and were seated right next to a family who looked very famalier. Turns out they were at Ft Knox and their daughter was my oldest daughters best freind until they moved several years ago. What a small world it is and we have been so lucky despite everything!
