In early fall of 1995 I was 19 years old and as wild and free as the wind. But a silent wish echoed within my bones, was I ever gonna find Mr. Right? That summer, I ended the first serious relationship I had ever been in, you know, the high school sweetheart, one & a half year flop, LOL I was working at a local cafe in Georgetown, TX at night while working days as a telemarketer. I was having a blast being single and going out every night with the group from the cafe, and with two jobs, I had plenty of money to keep me really happy, until the telemarketing job went under.
I remember sitting on the steps in the cafe one evening whining about my plight when my goofy looking pervert of a boss who of course had been ease-dropping, told me he might have a job for me. As an adventuresome young gal I jumped in on the deal without even had a clue what it was, besides an odd catering venture, as he put it. I harassed him on a daily basis for the two weeks before it started, just to make sure the job was still mine and wouldn't interfere with my hours at the cafe...a really awesome place to work, but so many of the stories aren't rated G...
I was to meet him at his house the first morning on the job. I drove up and saw his truck hitched to a trailer with the words Cafe on the Site on the side. Then it struck me...I was gonna work on a taco truck...or roach coach, as my dad always called them. Seemed good to me so far.
Come on ladies, imagine a mini-city being built...all kinds of men with all kinds of tools, LOL>>>OMGoodness>>>LMBO!!!!!!
Alright, enough of that, back to the story...
My boss was making sandwiches, he had a nice little assembly line going, so I jumped in and lended a hand. He asked me if I was getting the picture and I said yeah. He told me we were going to be driving around Sun City, a retirement community within Georgetown that was begining development. I was excited, something different, no desk, yippee, bring it on!!
Right off the bat I had my eyes on the fork lift driver. My word, his calves were like steel and I always admired strong legs :) I got to know Mr. Right On by the food he ordered and would have it waiting for him before he got to the stand. Soon our route doubled and I got to drive a truck of my own (the size of a UPS truck). I also got up the nerve to ask Mike over to my place for a bite and drink. When I sit here now and remember the far out tone in Mike's voice that night, I have to laugh...that wasn't a debonaire accent or English, it was Mike piling it on thick! He was so goofy that I had to spend more time with him, so he visited a few more times before we arranged to have our first date.
I still get warm fuzzies when I think back on our beginnings...how I would climg out of my roach coach and he would grab me up and swing me around and around effortlessly...I don't think we'll try that one right now, I'm trying to preserve him, LOL
Here's a funny thing. I didn't think to ask him his age until after he'd already moved in (and I was head over hills in love)...I had sworn off men below 21 and above 30 and figured him to be about 29. Well imagine my mother's shock when her firstborn child of 19 years old called to tell her she was living with a 32 year old man and was in looooooooove, LOL I think she was just 40 herself, which he will be this year, hehe! Sorry Mom. Here 7 years later (of move in date) she seems to have gotten pretty used to the old fart ;P
If this was unnecessary, feel free to tell me. I mostly did it for my own memories file. It's here at USM along with all my other stuff...I just love the paperless filing system :)
