One of The Worst Traits that anyone could have...

Arrogance... the word by itself angers me. Out of all the nasty traits humans can have, arrogance is one of the worst.

Society actually promotes and embraces arrogance. It's considered cool to be a snob, act conceited or flash your cash. Personally, I could care less about how many vehicles someone has, how big of a mansion they live in and how many others they own. I don't care about what designer created their dress or how many millions of dollars in diamonds they are wearing. This "bling bling" thing is getting so old.

This world has it's priorities backwards and celebrates the wrong things and the wrong people. The real values in life are forever over-shadowed by materialistic and arrogant attitudes. Confidence is fine until it crosses the line and becomes conceit.

Date: 1/29/2003 12:25:00 AM  From Authorid: 54155    I like this post, its a real eyeopener... I dont care abot the materialistic possesions ppl have... I dont really think it has anything to with their success...happiness does over most things. People these days..becoming self centered...vain...and shallow. My parents (well I should say my family) has 6 cars..they just bought a really really nice 95 red mustang today..when we dont even need another car. *sighs* good post
Date: 1/29/2003 1:27:00 AM  From Authorid: 60162    Thinking you are better than everyone else is just a horrible trait to have. I competely agree with you. We are all equal no matter our status with money or location or what we wear. There is no need to be so arrogant and rude. Great post, makes me feel I am not alone.
Date: 1/29/2003 3:42:00 AM  From Authorid: 24924    All you've said is true with MANY people; HOWEVER, not All. We all have to be careful and not mis-read, mis-judge people, merely from what we see on the outside. Simply because one has wealth does not mean they are only interested in material things. Here is a good example: One time I was walking along the pier at a resort, looking at all the magnificent Yachts in the harbor. I struck up a conversation with a very lovely couple who were doing some work on their Yacht. I complimented them and said something like "Wow! it must be nice", and they just smiled, and the lady said very quietly "You know; my husband and I spent most all our lives back in Jersey; working, scrimping, slaving in the dry cleaning business; we never took vacations; and raised a fine family that are now grown and successful. We are retired and wanted to relax and enjoy the fruits of our labors; we want to enjoy what few years we may or may not still have. People come by here and just see this beautiful boat and do not see all that went into it or anything else prior to; but just come to conclusions about what THEY think is important or not". They invited me aboard but I had to be back at the hotel, but I never forgot that sweet couple and what they said. They certainly seemed like two people who DESERVED everything they had for they had worked hard enough for it.

Date: 1/29/2003 5:26:00 AM  From Authorid: 60018    I totally agree, I hate ignorance as well :P
Date: 1/29/2003 5:55:00 AM  From Authorid: 42522    I agree with this post 100%! It's all so true!
Date: 1/29/2003 6:08:00 AM  From Authorid: 24856    I agree with you 100%....but I will add not all people that have money are snobs. Some of the wealthiest people in the world donate back to society. Those that do not, are snobs!
Date: 1/29/2003 9:36:00 AM  From Authorid: 13428    I agree 100% I have never had alot of money and pray that if by chance I ever do I would not act that way
Date: 1/29/2003 11:03:00 AM  From Authorid: 53284    Just because you have better toys then most of the other people, that doesn't make you a better person. ( It also doesn't make you a worse person ) It just makes you someone with better toys.
Date: 1/29/2003 12:31:00 PM  From Authorid: 12257    Ugh, I completely agree. I can't stand snobbery or conceit in people. Most people who are like this are usually extremely insecure, or making up for something. It's one thing to be confident, but like you said, there is a line.
Date: 1/29/2003 8:38:00 PM  From Authorid: 51070    I agree with you. In fact, I despise diamonds and expensive jewelry. Diamonds suck. Arrogance just ticks me off. I hate people who act like they know it all and that they're better. I know someone like this who always goes up to people and says, "I'm richer than you!" Hrrrmmmmm. Makes me wonder whether she's just lying to sound cool. It's cooler to be modest, I think.
Date: 2/3/2003 5:49:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 34487    Short-n-sweet.... you're not just short and sweet, you're honest and smart too. Great comment and I'm glad that you know what's really important in life.
Date: 2/3/2003 5:51:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 34487    Horror Buff... I'm glad you could relate to this post. Thanks for your comment.
Date: 2/3/2003 5:56:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 34487    Thinker, great example of how people may be wrongfully accused of being materialistic. You made an excellent point, that I should have elaborated on in my post. Thanks
Date: 2/3/2003 5:57:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 34487    Otter2... Yes, I agree with you. My post was focused more on people that flash their wealth and look down on others that have less.
Date: 2/3/2003 6:00:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 34487    Author 13428... I agree with you. If I was wealthy... I'd want to help society or those in need also. I'd make sure that money wouldn't go to my head.
Date: 2/3/2003 6:01:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 34487    WildBob... true but I'm looking at it from a little deeper perspective. Thanks for your comment.
Date: 2/3/2003 6:02:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 34487    Legend... yes, people that are conceited or "flashy" with their wealth, should remember that it can all be gone in an instant.
Date: 2/3/2003 6:04:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 34487    CreepyFreak... you sound like the real friends that I have in my life. I too, admire modesty and feel that people like that girl you mentioned, are very ignorant.
