A Sacred Place For Me For This New Year.

It's a new year and time again to stop and think not only about this past year and what we have experienced and learned...but also to think about this coming new year and the chance to wipe the slate clean and start anew.

I have decided that this year I will focus more on the spiritual and finding inner peace. I plan on meditating and praying daily. This is often difficult for me because it seems I never have the time...but I have decided to make it my priority to make the time...because what I do with this little bit of time will affect the entire rest of my day.

Not only will I meditate, but I plan on building my own labryinth in my back yard! This will be a wonderful peaceful and sacred place not only for me but also for my husband and even our 2 year old son.

Have you ever walked a labryinth? They are so calming and peaceful. I know that for my son it will be more of a fun game....and I think that is wonderful too.

Did you know that labryinths are dated back more than 4000 years ago? As you walk a labryinth you can meditate or reflect on anything that is on your mind. While walking the labryinth and shifting the 180 degrees at each turn you also shift your focus and awareness, which can induce receptive states of awareness...and is even said to be able to help balance the chakras.

I am going to build a seven circuit labryinth out of flat stone in my yard. Oh...I am so excited to get started on it! I also can't wait to be able to go out into my yard at any time of the day or night and just walk peacefully whenever I feel the need.

If any of you are interested in creating a labryinth, I would be happy to let you know where you can find the pattern to do it.

Happy New Year to you all! :D

Date: 1/2/2003 4:11:00 AM  From Authorid: 30747    That sounds like a wonderful idea. I wish I could do something like that but I live in an apartment. Maybe someday. I hope your labryinth brings you great peace. My resolve for this year is to ignore all the negativity that surronds me rather then trying to change it. I'm going to plaster the serinity prayer all over the place just in case I forget. *smiles* Have a great 2003.
Date: 1/2/2003 4:57:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 23610    Hiya, Hangman! Thanks for the comment. I'm not really a creative person. I've always been so left-brained. But I'm trying to learn to be more creative. I got the idea when I was meditating....then I looked it up on the internet and saw a bunch of beautiful labryinths that other people have made for themselves. I'm really looking forward to the project and then to getting to walk it. Happy New Year to you to, my friend. *Hugs*

I was wondering if it was possible to create a labrinth on a rug that one could roll up and put away until they wanted to use it. I'm not a very crafty person...but I wonder if it is possible to get a plain colored rug and then do some kind of fabric painting on it to create a labyrinth.
Date: 1/2/2003 1:30:00 PM  From Authorid: 21435    Sounds like a plan, Lady Nyx. The labrinth idea sounds so cool. If it worked back then, why not now. Enjoy and Write on...
Date: 1/2/2003 3:33:00 PM  From Authorid: 10245    Queen Paint Brush here! Yes! you could paint it with fabric paint... just make sure the background is a light color. A sisel rug would be really cool painted!
Date: 1/2/2003 3:36:00 PM  From Authorid: 10245    Lady Nyx.. this is a really neat idea. I'm always looking for interesting things to do in the back yard... last summer we put in a fairy garden, maybe this year we'll do a labrynth!

Date: 1/3/2003 1:50:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 23610    Hi, Kronk. Thanks! Yeah, I figure if it can really bring so much peace for other people and is so beautiful at the same time....what I am waiting for? LOL I'm excited to get started on it. It's still in the planning stage for now. I have to decide what type of stones to use and how big I want it and then plot it out on the land. It will be a great family project.
Date: 1/3/2003 1:52:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 23610    Mercury, you always have such good ideas. I think it would be great to have a portable one of fabric that you could take with you if you move or you can use indoors in bad weather. Your garden sounds wonderful. I love gardens and would love to have something like a fairy garden. Along with not being very craft-oriented....I don't seem to know what to do about plants either....LOL. But, I'm determined to start being more creative!
