Ode To Backbiting ~ Hey Larry ~

For what it's worth, going to work
Is a ritual I am usually prepared for
Ignoring the actions and the quirks
Why is it they always ask for more?

Never content, full of complaints
Unable to reach an accord
A skip, a scratch, then fingerpoint
You sound like a broken record

You did this , he did that
All the while keeping score
She said this, is that a fact?
My God, you're such a bore

All your energy, all your time
Devoted to petty tribulations
Can't you see, how much you whine?
As you damage further realtions?

Tis a petty thing, don't you know
While in your mind you'll get even
Shame you just can't let it go
Give something else to beleive in

The war rages on, two by two
As each trys to top the other
Anger the knife, push it through
Hoping to kill your brother

The season comes
Such as the one has now
Peace on earth, numb
Celebrate a sacred cow

Actions speak louder than words
And yours have made you proud
Hypocrisy flys, just as the bird
As you float on your little cloud

Can't let it go, won't give in
You must prove yourself just
You did no better, with your sin
Ashes to ashes, return to dust

Date: 12/26/2002 11:10:00 PM  From Authorid: 12341    Great poem Larry! I have changed jobs rather than put up with negative people like that. I don't try to change or "uplift" people like that anymore, just avoid them. Two faced backbiters live in their own world, not mine.
Date: 12/26/2002 11:14:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 5940    I know what you mean SG, I have to catch myself at times, so I can steer clear of said situations and waltz past it. You can only help those who want it.
Date: 12/26/2002 11:26:00 PM  From Authorid: 12341    Some will "feed" from it and become more aggressive or depressed, I have had some nurses who are so bitter and disillusioned tell me how much their job causes anxiety, depression, and lots of anger, under the surface. Happens to others in other occupations too. I hear it all the time. Some will take it out on their families, co-workers, and some come online and release their pent up hate. I'm just a nurse, not a psychologist, but reading people gets easier after years of listening and dealing with people. Being observant and listening are what we are taught and it pays off sometimes, at least for me. I tend to avoid stressful situations and people who create them. In my experience over the years, people like this usually need medication, drugs or alcohol to survive and that is just my own personal observation.

Date: 12/27/2002 8:24:00 AM  From Authorid: 28946    Great poem with great truth being spoken. Work is stressful enough without doing the office politics thing. I hate being around so much hate and turmoil and thought everyone did.
