FOr the past couple of years I was sure, I was going to be a lawyer (Im 16. I really wanted to be a lawyer, most of my friends said I would make a good lawyer and even my parents! Anyhow, being a lawyer means being a pretty good well-rounded student. (hmmmmm...) the thing is ...My english mark is near a failure, and my maths is a faillure (at this moment)! My highest grades right now is History, Geography and Biology. Nothin really directed to Law.

Couple weeks ago, the school guidance counsellor, was telling our class, that we should have decided what our future careers and all, will be by grade 10. Im in grade 11 now, and I'm not sure yet. Most of my friends now already know what University their going to and all. Some of them already know what they want to do in life.

I was thinking, I enjoy pets and animals a lot, I was thinking of being a vet. But then i need chemistry, which I absolutely hate, so I know i won't get far from that. Besides, in the school system I'm at, if you don't choose the right courses at the right time, i could graduate a year later! Which i don't want to do.

So my question is, how long (to all you adults out there) did it take you to really realize what your career would be?

Date: 12/18/2002 6:23:00 PM  From Authorid: 58022    I don't think the thing about having to know your future carreer by 10th grade is excactly true. My dad didn't decide until he was 3 years into college. Think of what you like to do, not as much of as how good your grades are. If you know what you like to do and what you're interested in (like law) then that could motivate you to get the grades needed to get you into a good college. But just because now your English and Math is bad, don't immediatly rule out law or anything.

Date: 12/18/2002 8:29:00 PM  From Authorid: 8941    I always felt like the thing to do was just go in and take basics the first year and get a feel for what you enjoy. Several people that I know who went to college changed their major at least once...and did not end up being what they went in for.
