Christmas depression

The closer it gets to Christmas the more depressed I get. I have not bought any gifts because I can't afford to buy any ( I haven't worked for almost a year due to an injury) I was receiving public assistance to purchase food, but they are taking that away from me at the end of the month, unless my Dr signs my form saying I still can not work, but he won't even though he knows I can't.

See, I hurt my back and hip and every day it gets worse. I am to the point where when I get up in the morning it is almost as if I am paralyzed for a few minutes, and it takes me a few minutes to get moving. Once I do start to move, I get stabbing pains in my lower back and right hip, and I go back to where I can't move until the pain leaves. The Dr says there is nothing wrong with me though. I have gotten another Dr. and I am going to them in the morning to see what they say. I have to get all my tests over again since my old Dr says he no longer has my medical records. They conveintly got destroyed. I have till the end of december to get all these tests done because that is when my medical runs out too.

I have the kids coming over Christmas eve and I feel bad because there is going to be nothing here for them to open. I don't know what to do anymore. I wish I could just sleep through Christmas.

Date: 12/18/2002 1:43:00 AM  From Authorid: 28946    Perhaps you have sciatica which is a pinched nerve. You probably need to see a neurologist. I know you are upset because you can't afford Christmas, but Christmas isn't about money but about love. Perhaps you could ,make some pinecone toys? A doll , a car, and other things can be made out of pinecones. The library has alot of craft books to give you ideas. There is also paper mache and many things can be made out of that. Best wishes.
Date: 12/18/2002 4:29:00 AM  From Authorid: 43556    Oh boy, been there. I hurt my neck and it took forever for them to decide that there really was something wrong. Yes a neurologist will be your best bet. They will be able to show what the doctors can't see. And pain does bring depression. You feel so helpless and so tired. Everything is out of your control. Christmas just compounds it. You want to do, but just can't physically or financially. But as Penny said, Christmas is love. Try to explain to the kids that the money wasn't there to buy, so just promise yourself (when you are feeling better), maybe give them coupons for what you would have liked to give them or special little times together. Kids are more understanding and durable than we give them credit for. Just be truthful with them. Hang in there hun. (By the way, you may want to consider malpractice against that doctor.)
Date: 12/18/2002 6:12:00 AM  From Authorid: 31410    First of all, I am sure your kids will understand. Just explain to them that you didn't have the money, but as soon as you do have money again, you will make up for christmas. As for the doctor, it is your legal right to have a copy of your medical records and if he won't give them to you, hire an attorney. Find an attorney that does free consultations and see what he says. You might be able to sue the doctor for not releasing your records, if not, if you find out that something is seriously wrong, you can sue him for malepractice (sp?). Good luck!
Date: 12/19/2002 6:20:00 AM  From Authorid: 51285    Well, maybe you should get a different doctor than, because he sounds quite moronic. I don't think people will yell at you or be mad at you because you can't AFFORD to buy presents, it's not like you're too lazy to buy them. I hope you get better. :-) PWTC aka GG

Date: 12/19/2002 10:09:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 29775    I did go and see another Dr. He is sending me for an MRI this Saturday. Hopefully it will show him what I have been telling him all along.
Date: 12/19/2002 10:41:00 AM  From Authorid: 28946    I hate to say this but it takes longer to get social security benefits from a physical disability but if you claim a mental illness, they seem to process you on through. Isn't that moronic?
Date: 12/20/2002 5:09:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 29775    Penny I know what you are saying, a guy I used to know filed for disability and got turned down, so he acted like he was crazy and got it
