Anyone with medical knowledge? ........ MonkeyLuvr

Okay medical question for people with any knowledge about what this might be and what I need to do about it.

My fiance, a 23 year old healthy male, is sick.

Sunday, he started having severe abdominal pain, followed by fever that spikes at night mainly. He continued having pain in his stomach for the next three nights, then had a little diarrhea the next two. Last night we went to the emergency room, he got diagnosed with diarrhea and dehydration.

What I want to know is how this is possible? He didn't have that much diarrhea, only a tiny amount, not even enough to be concerned with. He has had regular bowel movements up to this point, so he has not been constipated. And I had been dumping fluids into him for the prior two days that he was ill.

Tonight, he once again has fever, after having 2 bags of saline put into him at the hospital, and he's having abdominal pain again. This time, no diarrhea, just the fever and abdominal pain. He has also been having headaches. This has been going on since Sunday.

Any advice appreciated. I am thinking about taking him to another doctor tomorrow, since the hospital did not say anything about why he was having fever, and they ignored the fact that his diarrhea was not even that much.

Date: 12/13/2002 8:02:00 PM  From Authorid: 19092    Hello Monkey...could just be the flu. There's some bad stuff this year in the flu bugs. But five days seems a bit long. I'd try a different doctor, never hurts to get a second opinion...

Date: 12/13/2002 9:21:00 PM  From Authorid: 16671    When this happened to me, I too didnt have that much diarrhea, but headach and abdominal pain. Mine was block bowel, then it would un kink and the pain and fever would come back.
The only other time besides the flu that this happened was when I had appendicitis.

Date: 12/13/2002 10:12:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 30743    Thanks everyone... I am sorry I didn't stay to answer you guys, but I've been taking care of Stan. His temp rose to 102.3 so I had to give him tylenol, and make sure he kept a cold rag on his head. I am going to get a second opinion, thanks for not being well, you know, just that I am too overly concerned. It's just wierd that this has lasted so long... If you can, keep him in your prayers tonight. I will be taking him to another doctor tommorrow. Thanks and God Bless, Love,
Date: 12/13/2002 11:33:00 PM  From Authorid: 53052    could it be something he has eaten... it could be the norwalk what is going around(the thing what people on cruises are getting alot) it sounds almost like norwalk... you could see if he could get some anti-biotics that might help and keep him on the water...
Date: 12/13/2002 11:46:00 PM  From Authorid: 16845    did they check the appendix?
Date: 12/14/2002 2:46:00 AM  From Authorid: 58308    I had the flu where my tummy just cramped!! Fever and tummy pains (sharp!!). That was a couple of weeks ago. Then last week, I got this stupid cold. I could hardly talk Mon and Tues and ran a fever with that. One of those days, I could hardly move because my tummy again, went to cramping really bad. Besides a few sniffles and my ears popping today... I'm fine. My hubby had some antibiotic left so I just robbed him and I think that's what made me get over mine quicker. Oh yeah! I almost forgot! I got a kink (it was like NO kink I ever had!) in the right side of my neck that traveled to my right shoulder bone and under my collar bone. It was the weirdest and most painful thing I have ever experienced!! I hope he gets to feeling better soon!! My hubby had his for almost 4 weeks and my aunt still has hers... it's been a little over 8 weeks for her. Big Hugs!
Date: 12/14/2002 7:03:00 AM  From Authorid: 22852    Take him to another doctor. I hope he gets better soon.

Date: 12/14/2002 11:13:00 AM  From Authorid: 47699    You need to talk to ICU Nurse, Shadow Ghost or Dumb Blonde. They're all nurses. I hope he's feeling better soon.
Date: 1/12/2003 8:26:00 PM  From Authorid: 177    Sounds like the little Monkey has things pretty well under control. Best of luck to both of you.
