Alright, so here goes a story of a girl, a year and a half and a website....
When I found USM, I immediately dove into the poetry section. Yeah, that is where you will find most all of my posts. See, when I first came here, I was a very unhappy person, involved in a 5 year relationship with someone who I felt was not the one for me, with no one to understand. In depression, I had lost the one thing that I had all to myself, and the one thing that I felt defined me more than anything...my creative voice.
Through USM I found people to talk to when my social world consisted of nothing, and I had people to bolster the inner strength I knew I had, but was temporarily lacking. I found the best friends and people that I had met in many years, some, in all my life. In turn, I got to be a friend as well. I also found my poetry and voice again and had made it my point to give a lift to anyone else who wanted to share their own voice.
I have seen people come and people go, I have seen people fight and people make amends. I have laughed harder than I have ever laughed before. I have also cried. More than anything, I grew and watch others grow in different ways. I met the love of my life, because of this wonderful place.
I have seen changes in USM...both good and bad. I have seen people become mired in both of these extremes. What I feel USM really needs, and the whole world and the people in it for that matter, is balance. There needs to be a balance of what is fair and what is not. A balance of what is just and what is not...a balance between admins, monitors and members which will lend a greater understanding among the community of USM as a whole.
I have been a witness to things that I feel were blown out of proportion and became big problems that could have been settled, but were simply not, due to lack of fluid communication. What I envision the Steering Committee as is a objective voice in all matters. It's members working together to achieve that balance between equality and favoritism...between miscommunication and understanding...between flaring tempers and the chill of indifference.
I would be honored to serve on this committee fairly, justly, reasonably and objectively, whether it be this first panel, or whether it be the very last. Thank you for the opportunity...
And thank you all for making my time here such time well spent.:)
