IS THIS NORMAL? ``TAC

Hey ya'll. I have a question....My daughter is 13 years old. She's been having headaches, some are pretty bad, but very seldom do they get bad. She's had a slight case of dizziness from time to time as well, but I've blown that off, thinking that it's normal for people to get dizzy, especially if they get up too quickly. This morning however, she was sitting in the recliner, got up, began to stretch, and totally passed out! She hit her head pretty hard on the floor when she went down. Now, I'm no doctor, but is that normal? I know that MANY people get dizzy if they get up too quickly, but is passing totally out normal? I'm really NOT an over reactive mother, but this has me concerned. I am going to call our doctor Mon. and make her an appointment, but would also like any input any of you may have....

Date: 12/7/2002 10:51:00 AM  From Authorid: 3688    I think calling the doctor may be a good idea.... I don't know what it could be maybe something as simple as something wrong with her sinuses or an inner ear infection....but i'm sure going to the doc will help ease your mind
Date: 12/7/2002 10:55:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 600    I was thinking the same thing, but she always eats good...She's never been one to not eat. She's very athletic, eats healthy, and isn't currently on her period. I'm just at a loss here....
Date: 12/7/2002 10:55:00 AM  From Authorid: 59214    Tell your daughter she's not alone. I get random headahces, and dizziness VERY often. It's NOT just from standing up quickly, though. Then I feel headed, and then restrained.

I don't know what it is.

Date: 12/7/2002 10:57:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 600    Dreamer, I wondered if it could be something like that too. She doesn't seem to be stopped up or anything, but I am pretty sure that an inner ear infection would cause vertigo. I'm just concerned because of the frequent headaches, dizziness, and now this....
Date: 12/7/2002 10:58:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 600    Mailiani, she hasn't complained of being hot or feeling restrained....She was pure white though. I'm not sure whether or not that means anything....
Date: 12/7/2002 11:03:00 AM  From Authorid: 22721    Sounds like low iron or something blood related. The doctors appt. is a good idea!
Date: 12/7/2002 11:05:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 600    Thanks BFO...I fought myself against over reacting and making a trip to the ER. I am calling our doctor Mon. for sure...
Date: 12/7/2002 11:09:00 AM  From Authorid: 22721    Hey, she's your daughter. Her health comes first!
Date: 12/7/2002 11:11:00 AM  From Authorid: 46527    A trip to the docs to make sure nothings wrong is a good idea, I tend to think though that it is just a part of her body growing up and she'll grow out of it within a year or two. She might be a little anaemic..not uncommon at her age......huggsss
Date: 12/7/2002 11:14:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 600    Thanks LSR...I think I'll feel better once she's seen the doctor. It just really scared me. Hugs, back at ya.
Date: 12/7/2002 11:15:00 AM  From Authorid: 22852    No, this sounds like she needs to see a Doctor and soon. Since she did pass out and hit her head I would take her to the emergency room, just to be on the safe side. I will keep you both in my prayers.
Date: 12/7/2002 11:26:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 600    Thanks Storm. She didn't have a bump, but she hit on carpet (thank goodness)..Right now she's taking a nap, but I plan to wake her up and check on her pretty soon..
Date: 12/7/2002 11:29:00 AM  From Authorid: 32763    Hey TAC! haven't talked to you in a while. i agree with everyone else...take her to see the family dr. on monday. you all are in my thoughts. hope she feels better soon!
Date: 12/7/2002 11:35:00 AM  From Authorid: 38278    I'm like that too. I've gotten a lot of headaches over the years. I've never been sure of why that happens so much.
Date: 12/7/2002 12:35:00 PM  From Authorid: 54830    she might need glasses.. i have her same problem, with out passing out.. i get headache because i cant see very far, and i get dizzy and disoriented when theres alot of movement..
Date: 12/7/2002 1:27:00 PM  From Authorid: 33517    I myself have no idea...But, please keep us updated on your daughter...She will be in my thoughts and prayers. I hope everything turns out just fine...**Big Canadian Hugs**
Date: 12/7/2002 1:41:00 PM  From Authorid: 54247    You are doing the right thing! Really need to find the cause. Early intervention is important in many serious cases. My prayers are with you. RAT
Date: 12/7/2002 2:14:00 PM  From Authorid: 48993    so see a ear nose and throat doctor she could have some sort of inner ear problem which throws the equalibrum out of wack and if no answers are founf go see a neurologist.
Date: 12/7/2002 2:53:00 PM  From Authorid: 23610    Because you say she also had headaches along with the symptom of dizziness and then this fainting episode....it brings to mind dehydration. Is she drinking enough fluids? Yes....I would take her to see a doctor just to have a check up and make sure that it is not something more serious. More than likely it will be something simple....but you want to rule anything else out first with a doctor before just brushing it off.
Date: 12/7/2002 3:55:00 PM  From Authorid: 16671    take her to the doctor, this is not normal.
Date: 12/7/2002 3:56:00 PM  From Authorid: 16671    When I had hypoglacmia which is low blood sugar that is what would happen to me, dizzy, headachs and passing out. Please keep us informed.
Date: 12/7/2002 4:21:00 PM  From Authorid: 15033    Amemia. Get her some multivitamins w/iron...:-) Love ya TACy (((Hugs))))
Date: 12/7/2002 6:43:00 PM  From Authorid: 53052    is she eating?? is she eatign enough?? the headaches could be caused but an allergy to something(quite often caffiene... chocolate pop are both loaded with it)
Date: 12/7/2002 6:44:00 PM  From Authorid: 53052    if you can get her on a multi-vitamin.. it can't do her any harm to have one and they are always a good thing to have.. we as a society in general tend to lack alot in our diets.. personally i think everyone could use a multi-vitamin a day just for that extra boost
Date: 12/7/2002 9:46:00 PM  From Authorid: 20296    my youngest had headaches like crazy at 5 and up. she has terrible allergies...and the doctor couldnt figure the rest out. she also has a compressed ear drum (nothing can be done about that. stress can also bring on symptoms. you would think a child would have no stress..but they do. I hope all is well tac. let us know. *huGz*
Date: 12/7/2002 9:48:00 PM  From Authorid: 19220    I think you are doing the right thing by calling the doctor. I don't think it sounds normal. I hope everything turns out alright. ~Blessings~
Date: 12/7/2002 10:03:00 PM  From Authorid: 18516    This doesn't sound normal tac..get her to the doc asap! I'd also make sure she gets a cat scan and an MRI just to be safe. Her headaches may be migraines. Please keep us updated!!
Date: 12/8/2002 7:47:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 600    Hey everyone! Sorry this is so late in coming, but I went ahead and took her to the ER yesterday because she said that her legs felt "funny" when she tried to walk and she blacked out again. The doctor ran an EKG, along with some blood tests and came to the conclusion that it is either a blood sugar problem, (can't know for sure without proper tests) or A-typical migraine condition, or a vasovagal attack. At any rate,I feel better knowing that it isn't more serious. Thank you all so much for your responses.
Date: 12/9/2002 6:26:00 AM  From Authorid: 32763    hey TAC, glad you went ahead and took her! and REALLY glad to hear that it isn't something serious!
Date: 12/9/2002 8:13:00 PM  From Authorid: 20296    oh good tac! I know about those migrains..poor dear *huGz*
Date: 12/11/2002 8:42:00 PM  From Authorid: 18516    I'm glad you went ahead and took her Tac! Atleast now you know what's going on. I know about the migraines I've got them too. I hope your daughter gets all this worked out..poor thing.
Date: 1/7/2004 6:41:00 AM  From Authorid: 46682    TAC, If I were you I'd take her to the doctor ASAP. Good Luck & God Bless...Tracy~Greywolf
