Accepting Our Weight Finally?...Penny44

Last night on The Discovery Channel, the topic was about "Living Large" and it really had some great info about we heavy duty people.

One of the things I found interesting is that when we diet, our bodies perceive us as starving and ends up really messing our metabolic system up. We usually end up weighing more than we did when we started dieting.

The show really gave me alot of food for thought. If we could just accept ourselves, then maybe we could succeed in beating the never ending cycle of weight gaining.

I also found a good link through that program with more info about this. There are personal stories from people, young and old, and info from medical experts.

Here is the URL:

and another URL:

Hope you find it as helpful as I am.

Date: 11/25/2002 5:25:00 PM  From Authorid: 46486    I think I watched that before.. I would like to lose weight, but I have kind of accepted myself.. I am tall for my age and for being a girl, I am 5'8" and I weigh 280lbs, I love my height, because I look like I am about 200lbs.. I wish people could accept who they are and what God did give to them instead of worrying about losing weight.
Date: 11/25/2002 5:29:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 28946    I agree Fallin Angel. Did you know that 54% of Americans are overweight? That means we are the majority! Try to check out that site as it lists all types of web addies to show solidarity!
Date: 11/25/2002 6:21:00 PM  From Authorid: 53052    i will surely be checking out the website... and people need to be more accepting to larger people instead of discriminating against them.. what alot of them don't realise is that as they get older they will be putting on a few pounds! a good example... Drew Cary.. he was a meduim build guy growing up and fairly fit.. he faught with weight all his life.. and he came around to accept it and look where he is now.. he knows he will always be larger but he's happy with himself

Date: 11/25/2002 9:02:00 PM  From Authorid: 42945    hi Penny, this is a good post, the gym that I attend has a weight loss programme as well and its very interesting..I believe that these people who skip out on lunch or brekky or any meal for that matter actually send their metabolism into starvation mode, my aunt who attends there told this to the leader of the group that she never eats lunch and she was told its the worst thing you can do...its very hard to lose weight unless you can exercise along with watching what you eat..when time permits I walk long distances (power walking) and I try to do that nearly every day...but when it comes to the weekend I eat anything I choose to ....we have to remember also that everyone's metabolism is different, ...good post hun...hugs Zema
