The US developed an idea to use bats against Japan to carry small incendiary bombs and set fires in their cities.
Bat boms were tested, resulting in the accidental destruction of a large hanger and a general's car.
The army dropped the project after two years, and the navy picked it up.
The bats were cooled into hibernation to prevent any more premature fires, and then dropped from aircraft.
They did not awaken in time and died in the fall.
