In 1990 engineers digging a railway tunnel under the English Channel broke through the last dividing rock and joined Britain to mainland Europe for the first time since the Ice Age.
Ellen Burstyn received a permanent spinal injury during filming of "The Exorcist". In a sequence where she was thrown away from her possessed daughter, a harness jerked her violently from the bed. Burstyn fell on her coccyx and screamed out in pain, which was filmed for the movie.
