We all know eBay is the place if you need an Enron coffee mug or a Jimmy Carter bobble head doll. But many people have found something even better on the nonstop sale site: a dream job.
At least 150,000 folks run businesses entirely on eBay, selling baseball cards, bed sheets, buble wrap, you name it. "They started with collectibles from their closets and then realized they could make a living," says Marsha Collier, author of Starting and eBay Business for Dummies, which has 50,000 copies in print (five currently for say on eBay).
Jeffery Stannard of Melrose, N.Y. was a casual eBay seller until he dabbled in custom rubber stamps. They became so popular that he took a day off work to fill orders. His boss objected, so stannard quit to sell stamps full time. "Whould I ever work for someone else again? No Way," he says "In fact, I may have to hire a staff."
