Katie was a wonderful dancer. When people watched her dance, their breath would always be taken away. Not only could that girl dance, she could sing. When she sang her voice could make grown men cry. She lived in a small town in Alabama, but word about this talented girl traveled fast. Her family was never really rich, they actually were very poor, but they always got through somehow. When she was thirteen, Katie was entered into a talent search, taking place in another town in Alabama. When she told her Mamma that she had spent a lot of the family's life savings on it, her mother was infuriated. "Foolish Girl!" she screamed, "I know you think youll win, and youll become famous, and rich! Well what if it doesn't happen?! What then?! Youll have wasted most of our whole life savings, thats what!" she sighed in disgust. Katie knew her mother would be angry, but telling her that she couldn't do it, that was the last straw. "Mamma, I'm sorry i used a lot of the money, but I know i can win, and when i do, we'll see what you have to say then!" Then she turned and raced up the stairs listening to her mamma say that she was acting like a spoiled brat, and that she was the devils child, not hers. hours later mamma came in the room and threw a bag at her and said quietly, "pack it with your belongings." and left just as suddenly as she came. KAtie did as she was told then came down the stairs. "Im ready mamma. We have to leave now if we're going to make it in time." she said cheerfully, glad her mother gave in. her parents and little brother and older sister all sat at the table. Katie smiled and said, "Good bye everyone. Mamma, lets go." her parents both looked at her grimly. Her sister Maggie walked over to her. "Im so sorry, and im going to miss you." she said hugging Katie then backed away. her little brother sammy started to sob. katie smiled and said, "Dont worry i wont be gone long!" Maggie looked confused then said, "You dont know do you? mamma told daddy, and if you really wnat to go, you have to go by yourself." Katie couldnt believe it. They didnt believe that she could do it. they thought she would fail. "Fine, you dont believe i can do it, then when i become rich and famous, I'll never think of you!" With that she left the house by herself into the lonely darkness. Little did she know that she should have stayed with the family because someone was not only watching her, he was following her.
