(11/6/02 - New Britain, Connecticut) — Imagine going to a cash machine and finding your ten-dollar bank balance had mushroomed to more than $20,000.

Authorities in New Britain, Connecticut, charge Ramon Ferrer ripped-off thousands of dollars that had been accidentally credited to his account. The money was supposed to have been deposited in the account of a nonprofit group.

Prosecutors say Ferrer withdraw the windfall at ATM's and bank branches within ten days.

He's pleaded innocent to first-degree larceny charges and is free on bail. He's due back in court next month.

Date: 11/7/2002 4:20:00 PM  From Authorid: 55408    Figures, a guy gets lucky and they charge him with first-degree larceny. The rich get richer but can't stand anyone else making a little extra cash, even if it wasn't suppose to be there in the first place. *The Quiet One*
Date: 11/7/2002 4:23:00 PM  From Authorid: 57219    Thats sad!! You know, its the stupid banks fault! They should teach their bankers how to credit the right people...I would have had the money spent the day i found out I had it. (I wouldnt of had a $10 account in the first place but still) Grr, STUPID BANK!! I think he is Innocent all the way.
Date: 11/7/2002 4:26:00 PM  From Authorid: 61894    Like who wouldn't take and spend money they find in their account?? - CanuckBeast
Date: 11/7/2002 4:28:00 PM  From Authorid: 25390    Let the guy keep the money for the bank's wrongdoing! And share the wealth with us poor college kids!
Date: 11/7/2002 4:34:00 PM  From Authorid: 13119    the bank is at fault buttttttttttttttt he didn't take it out just once, he kept going back over a ten day period. that's probably why they charged him.
Date: 11/7/2002 4:59:00 PM  From Authorid: 49311    yes it was the banks fault but the man went back after he knew it was not his first time maybe but ten days even the most honest person would think about spending the money
Date: 11/7/2002 5:09:00 PM  From Authorid: 19586    Now that would never happen to me. My luck I would have a thousand dollars and it would only give me ten!!!!!!!! LOL!
Date: 11/7/2002 5:40:00 PM  From Authorid: 49101    I am a teller and I deposit LITERALLY hundreds of thousands of doallrs a day... and all I can say is... I FEEL REALLY SORRY for the teller who made THAT ERROR!
Date: 11/7/2002 5:42:00 PM  From Authorid: 53900    LOL you know I know somebody who went to teh ATM and pulled out 100 dollars or somewhere around that amount and ended up getting like 3000. it was very strange adn as far as I know he never got caught. NOw as for me I am very honest I would probably not spend it because I knew it was not mine and the computers would eventually catch it.
Date: 11/7/2002 6:08:00 PM  From Authorid: 16069    Awe, thats not cool. They made the mistake, not him. I'll be honest, Id take the money too.
Date: 11/7/2002 6:09:00 PM  From Authorid: 43586    hmm, how is it his fault for spending money that he had in his account, regardless..
Date: 11/7/2002 6:27:00 PM  From Authorid: 609    I hate that! If you paid a bill more than you owed they wouldnt give you back the money and good luck getting it. He shouldn't be charged, he should get the money and the bank should refund it to the org. Maybe then it will teach the bank 2 important things, 1 Computers are NOT full proof and therefor shouldnt be running a bank, 2 be more careful and watch what you do. I feel sorry for the guy!
Date: 11/7/2002 6:34:00 PM  From Authorid: 3263    oh HECK NO!!! I'da taken it too! Only, with me, it'd been gone that first day
Date: 11/7/2002 6:41:00 PM  From Authorid: 46068    Thats a shame that he got caught... I would have done the same thing... I probably would'nt have spent it right off but certainly would have taken it from the account and placed it in a safe palce to see if they caught on.... Take care,
Date: 11/7/2002 6:42:00 PM  From Authorid: 35281    Well thats kind of dumb. They make the mistake and he pays for it? I hope he doesn't get into a lot of trouble. Lilwicca
Date: 11/7/2002 7:07:00 PM  From Authorid: 36901    He deserves it!!! Once, I had to deposit $3,000.00 in my checking account and also deposit $100.00 in a friend's account. The Credit Union teller put ALL of it in my friend's account and I had a really hard time getting it back. I had to go to court just to get the money back and needless to say, that "friend" isn't a friend anymore. She knew it was mine (including the hundred that I was putting in her account out of the goodness of my heart to cover bad checks she'd written), but she refused to give it (the 3 thousand) back .
Date: 11/7/2002 8:53:00 PM  From Authorid: 35114    LOL I can't say I blame him. But I probably would have alerted the bank. ^^;
Date: 11/8/2002 7:10:00 AM  From Authorid: 42259    Lol...it would be really hard not to take it.
Date: 11/8/2002 7:19:00 AM  From Authorid: 54975    hay the bank is the one that messes up, not the guy. casperBOO
