Communist China...vision of the future for...the US??? ~pinky and the brain

i don't know why, but i saw this program on PBS on the environment and how we aren't using it correctly, and how overpopulation is causing a lot of problems, and it got me thinking:

What if China's going to turn into the United States someday? As in, their type of gov't in ours, because eventually we'll have overpopulation and resources will be low, so they'll have to control businesses, parks, and basically everything to preserve the dwindling environment.

What if that is our future? I can see how already (i'm a kind of a philospopher) we've destroyed most of our forests and use up our resources more than any other country in the world. We don't worry about it now, but it seems more like watching out with diet.

If you don't watch out for the fat we'll get fat (no offense to the fat people here!). If we don't pay attention to what we're doing to the environment, we'll eventually have to have most of our rights taken away in order to preserve for future generations, to preserve us.

What do you think??? This has been hanging around in my head for a little while, and it makes me wonder about this country. Please review; this is important. ~pinky and the brain

Date: 11/6/2002 7:32:00 PM  From Authorid: 45630    Sure but I can't see China being the next America i.e. the same type of government. I think while our technology grows new ways to use our fossil fuels and our eco system will be manufactured so that the problem is limited.
Date: 11/6/2002 9:40:00 PM  From Authorid: 51979    I don't think so. China isn't that way because they are overpopualted, the've been commies for a long time. And America would revolt, simply put. We are the united states for a reason. So many americas have so much pride in our freedom, heck that is why we are in america. So no, no chance at all.
Date: 11/7/2002 6:46:00 AM  From Authorid: 15228    We have more forrests now than we did at the founding of this country...that is a fact. Do you really think loggers are going to destroy there own industry by not planting trees to replace the ones that they cut down? We do pay attention to what we do to the environment. It is proven that the more a nation developes, the more enviornmentally conscious we become. It is 3rd world countries that don't really care. How can one care when they have so many people starving?? My husband and I lived in South Korea for a year from 88-89, they had little to no pollution laws, the place stunk, If I stood outside waiting for a bus, I could literally scrape the dirt from my face. Fast forward 12 years, my husband went back for a year, he said it was amazing. South Korea has prospered, pollution is under control, they are very wealthy, it no longer stinks all the time, and this is despite the fact they have grown even larger. It's just that they are wealthier and can put more money towards controlling there pollution.
Date: 11/8/2002 8:13:00 PM  From Authorid: 27678    Pinky, welcome to the NEW WORLD ORDER. A fascist society where governmental corporations rule every aspect of your life. 9/11 was the beginning of the end of good ole American freedom and democracy and we handed it to the enemy within our own camp on a silver platter.
