Stephen King's Carrie (Remake)

Stephen King's Carrie (Remake) Aired November 4th, 2002 NBC

Well I just finished watching the new film adaptation of Carrie and my feelings are mixed. I have always been a huge fan of the novel and the original Brian De Palma film. I also love the music from the short lived Carrie: The Musical.

This new film started off very promising, following the events of the novel much closer and providing a more modern and realistic spin to the events of the film. I loved some of the changes made to the story and how Carrie's mother was played down rather than over dramatic. It was kinda creepier because you knew she truly loved Carrie yet at the same time was afraid of her.

My main concern and complaint was the ending. For those who have yet to see the film, I won't give it away...but it's very anti-climatic and reeks of Thelma and Louise...LOL

What are your thoughts?

"Carrie! Why do they always treat me so bad? They all know my name. It's Carrie..." - Carrie from Carrie: The Musical

Date: 11/4/2002 8:17:00 PM  From Authorid: 24732    I didn't see the re-make. I don't see why they needed to remake it. I don't see why they need to remake any movie. The original is almost always better.
Date: 11/4/2002 8:20:00 PM  From Authorid: 3395    LOL... I think we practically posted our "Carrie" reviews at about the same time, oh well. Yeah, I really liked the new version a lot better than the old version! Peace,
Date: 11/4/2002 8:20:00 PM  From Authorid: 53360    I just saw it too. I never read the book, but I was kind of disappointed about the ending too. I also thought the mothers calmness, instead of yelling was a creepier approach. It seemed to me that they wanted to kind of modernize things.
It was ok, but not as scary as the first one. This one just made me feel sorry for Carrie, and not scared of her. And the ending...I wont give it away, but I like the original ending much better.

Date: 11/5/2002 1:56:00 AM  From Authorid: 53052    personally i think they need to stop killing classics.. it was a classic for a reason.. most remakes are horrid to the orignals.. it looked fake.. the acting.. was bad.. the girl they cast as carrie... she didn't suite the role... i just think it looks like a cheap TV movie(well that is what it was) compared to a classic... knowing Stephen King it will be out to buy on VHS in a few months
Date: 11/5/2002 1:57:00 AM  From Authorid: 53052    i find alot of young people can't enjoy the classics and need to see things re-done.. i ask how many people have seen the orignal Mr Deeds goes to town.. to the new Adam Sandler one... or hte orignal house on haunted hill...people need to stop forgetting the past movies...
Date: 11/5/2002 3:19:00 AM  From Authorid: 44321    I don't know why they had to remake carrie,I did not like it too much I fell asleep while watching it.
Date: 11/5/2002 5:04:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 47618    King really had nothing to do with this remake. And also the real Carrie, the one from the book, for chubby and covered with pimples...doesn't sound like Sissy Spacek or Angela Bettis now does it.
Date: 11/5/2002 6:46:00 AM  From Authorid: 20104    I liked the whole movie exceot for the very end. I thought that was kind of weird. I havent read the book yet so I dont know how it really ends.
Date: 11/15/2002 12:22:00 AM  From Authorid: 51070    Nothing can beat the old version. I'm sorry, but that's the truth. Sissy Spacek rulez.
Date: 7/30/2004 10:31:00 PM  From Authorid: 55582    i seen both version of the carrie movie the one in 1970's and the t.v movie they did in 2003 i think i like them bother but the 1970's version was better
Date: 11/13/2005 9:45:00 PM  From Authorid: 51292    Ive seen both, this one and the original but its been a LONG time. I actually liked both of them, but I agree with the others..the first one was better! Thanks for the review, cool movie!
