(10/30/02 - Saluda, South Carolina) — If the police chief of Saluda, South Carolina, had his way, he'd outlaw trick-or-treating.

While Chief Kenneth McCaster can't ban the Halloween custom, he can offer an alternative. McCaster wants the townsfolk to turn off their lights tomorrow night and not answer the doorbell. Instead, the town plans a party in a local park.

Officers and other volunteers in costume will be handing out treats to the kids.

He says pranksters have caused too much trouble in the past to make Halloween fun.

So, in a way.....it's benefitial, too, LOL..........but that's just my opinion. ^.^
Date: 10/31/2002 12:05:00 PM  From Authorid: 25390    I don't see how his solution would get rid of all the tricksters. If I were a trickster, that's exactly when I would do it...when no one was home! *evil smile* I think I'm going to make a stop by Saluda....

Date: 10/31/2002 11:16:00 PM  From Authorid: 59940    Can anybody say 'The grinch who tried to steal Halloween' ? Oh well *shrugs* I guess the explanation is well thought out,but you cant just stop Tradition...unless it hurts someone...Fayes Eyes
Date: 11/2/2002 6:09:00 PM  From Authorid: 35281    He can't really force anyone to turn off the light can he? Besides, if I was planning to do anything, I would do it when no one was home, so that idea of his isn't really good. Lilwicca
