"OH WELL, YOU TOLD ME YOU WERE DROWNING, I WOULD NOT LEND A HAND. I'VE SEEN YOUR FACE BEFORE MY FRIEND-BUT I DON'T KNOW IF YOU KNOW WHO I AM. I CAN FEEL IT, COMING IN THE AIR TONIGHT. I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS MOMENT, FOR ALL MY LIFE. CAN YOU FEEL IT, COMING IN THE AIR TONIGHT? O' LORD, O' LORD............."
CHAPTER THREE: Between 1957-1959, four girls disappeared from this backwoods area, and the locals wrote it off as 'alien abduction'. There wasn't much to investigate at the time, every few months a young female would vanish without a trace, and there would be no logical explanation would surface, so it would be assumed that aliens kidnapped these girls and took them to Mars or Venus, or whereever you take girls- if you're an alien. It wasn't as if murder & kidnapping were unheard of. There was the Lindberg baby, Leopold & Loeb, Bonnie & Clyde, Dillinger, Al Capone & the mafia, and even killers of 'serial' caliber, such as- The Phantom (moonlight murders) in Texarkana, Texas that still remains unsolved, but nonetheless, Lisa Jo(l3) & Pamela Spencer(16), Sally Faye Shields (19), and Laura Beason (16) fell prey to some origin of unknown substance......
In l964, the body of a l3-year-old girl was found floating face up, in muddy, shallow water at a swimming spot known as 'Lands End'. She had been badly beaten & viciously stabbed, then suffocated with a WoolWorth bag. Police that investigated the mysterious homicide, found a small bundle of books, a small black vinyl purse, & a bloody piece of tan cloth. Four years passed and one of the suspects on the small list, suspiciously disappeared. In l969, Sheriff Bobby Shelton suddenly and abruptly quit his post, and as the area of Lonsvale,Louisiana began to grow- the folklore and mythology surrounding the four missing girls & the 'LAND'S END MURDER" (as it would become titled)- grew as well. New highways and Motels couldn't cover the trail of blood that was flowing in Parke County. In one newspaper clipping, it read, the crime-rate had dropped almost 50% during a particular politicians tenure, when in truth, during eight years as prosecutor, there were 5 unsolved homicides, the work of an obvious mass murderer, it was not safe anymore in Lonsvale, and it was only going to get worse. Much, much worse...........
It seemed that murder had taken a leave of absence after the incident at Land's Ending, but it would return in the mid 70's. It possibly didn't officially end until 2001, but the contorted and disfigured plot of this horrid tale is as bizarre as what seems to happen without retribution in Lonsvale & Parke County, Louisiana.............................
On a warm spring day, in l975, Amy Earle (l4) was last seen by two of her girl-friends from school, talking on a payphone at a Gulf gasoline station. Other than the attendant on duty, who had given the girl change to use the phone, no-one ever saw a trace of her, except for those 3 people and whoever took her away from town. It was broad daylight and even though the community had seen a freakish amount of strange and unexplainable happenings over the past 40 years, no-one felt as if they were at risk, no-one felt like a target. But unfortunately in this part of the world- a female wasn't safe. Amy Earle evaporated like rain on a humid Louisiana summer's day. It was as if she just blew down the road like angeldust in a windstorm. Amy's disappearance wouldn't fall on deaf ears or be blamed on spacecrafts & aliens- Someone has abducted the little girl from a local gas station and in all probability, killed her as well. The pieces from the 50's, 60's, and the Earle case were beginning to form a puzzle of frightening proportions. It was finally being evaluated logically and not from urban legend's eyes.................
