I think this is wrong!! WHO DO THEY THINK THEY ARE?~~~TAC

Last night, while watching the local news, there was a story that really upset me, and still has me going today. There was a little girl who had been kidnapped from Mexico several years ago.... Somehow she ended up here in Oklahoma. She was taken into custody by the DHS due to sexual abuse (by her abductor). They then realized she was a kidnap victim. Here's that part that really ticks me off....Her mother has come to get her daughter, BUT, the state will not release her to her mother's custody! She is in foster care. They are actually going to have a court hearing to determine what is in the child's best interest before deciding where she will end up. They say that her mother only makes $300. per mo. The thing is, this girl, as well as her mother, are legal residents/citizens of Mexico. She is NOT a US citizen, so what grounds do they have to hold her and try to determine ANYTHING?!?! Her mother rode all of this way on a Greyhound bus to finally see her baby after 5 yrs. of worry, only to hear that she will have to go home alone! This has me irrate! What am I missing here? How can the state of OK. legally hold this child and not allow her mother to take her home?

Date: 10/29/2002 6:03:00 AM  From Authorid: 58308    That is pure stupid!! I believe if I was that childs mother, I would everything in my power to sue that state of OK. Anything to waste tax payers hard earned money!! They don't have to work for it... so why the crap do they care? I'm with you... this peeves me off!! Hugs! Zeeboette
Date: 10/29/2002 6:05:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 600    Jabbs, I agree! I can't see where the US has ANY jurisdiction here....And I can't imagine this mother's pain because of their ignorance...The child was born in Mexico, so regardless of her mother's poverty, we are NOT entitled to make any decision...I find it ironic that we are constantly sending illegal residents back to their own country, but holding this child against her mother's wishes!
Date: 10/29/2002 6:06:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 600    Hi Heather! I've missed ya!
Date: 10/29/2002 6:06:00 AM  From Authorid: 15228    I realize she is a citizen of Mexico..but she has been in the United States for 5 years..Does she mainly speak English now? If she goes back to Mexico will she get the help she needs? I think there is probably more going on than we know, but on the surface is does seem really unfair.
Date: 10/29/2002 6:08:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 600    Hi Zeeboette. Well, as of right now the Mexican consolate is supposed to be "going to bat" for this family. I can only hope that this state will soon realize that they should have NO authority here....
Date: 10/29/2002 6:10:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 600    Hi Kelly. I'm sure English probably is her primary language....BUT, how many cases have we heard about American children being kidnapped and taken to foreign countries....The American parents get them back if they are found, regardless of their learned language. Why should this child be any different? Being a mother, I am totally sympathetic to this woman's pain, and feel that in the least OK. is being unjust....
Date: 10/29/2002 6:22:00 AM  From Authorid: 48771    That is wrong !! the best interest of the child is to be w/ the mother!
Date: 10/29/2002 6:27:00 AM  From Authorid: 2030    Mother and daughter belong on the next plane back home. No where else.
Date: 10/29/2002 6:37:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 600    48711 and BCAR, I totally agree....I'm just dumbfounded here. Trying to see where in the world the state "officials" get the idea that they have ANYTHING to say about this! Grrrr. This has really gotten me in an uproar.....lol
Date: 10/29/2002 6:43:00 AM  From Authorid: 52866    Gosh, this is appalling! After what that little girl has ben through...she isn't gonna WANT anyone else except Mommy!
Date: 10/29/2002 6:44:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 600    I think that it might be a little overwhelming for her since she really doesn't know her mother, but that is where she needs to be.....I would feel homicidal if I were this mother...
Date: 10/29/2002 6:44:00 AM  From Authorid: 18527    So they let Elian Gonzalez go back home with his dad but not this little girl? That is stupid!
Date: 10/29/2002 6:45:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 600    That was the first thing I thought too Keth. We sent him back to Cuba! So, why would there be anything to "decide" where this little girl is concerned?
Date: 10/29/2002 7:26:00 AM  From Authorid: 16069    Thats cruel!
Date: 10/29/2002 8:03:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 600    ^^^I agree completely!
Date: 10/29/2002 8:09:00 AM  ( Admin-JGB )   Oh lord... this seems outright WRONG. I feel outraged too!
Date: 10/29/2002 8:19:00 AM  From Authorid: 4548    ugh, didn't they learn anything from the Elian Gonzales situation???
Date: 10/29/2002 8:21:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 600    Hey Jung. I know exactly how you are feeling.....Jez. It strikes me that this country has the misconception that they can decide everything for every other country as well as their citizens. This situation really has me fuming.....
Date: 10/29/2002 8:27:00 AM  From Authorid: 1631    Unbelievable. Call your Congressman, TAC, and raise some cain!!!...
Date: 10/29/2002 8:34:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 600    That's a great idea Ali....I am truly hoping that the Mexican consulate can make some headway here, but have serious doubts....
Date: 10/29/2002 8:41:00 AM  From Authorid: 57452    Because the State of Oklahoma took care of the child for five years....the Mother can't just come up & get her daughter....you know the State wants some compensation for taking care of the the daughter for so long. That is one theory, I am sure there are many, besides the Federal or State laws that stem from the issue. *sigh* ~Ms.
Date: 10/29/2002 8:45:00 AM  From Authorid: 1631    I'm sure there ARE a lot of issues....all Bureaucratic. But the MORAL issue is this girl needs to be with her mother, period...
Date: 10/29/2002 8:49:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 600    In theory that may play a big role. BUT, the state wouldn't have taken care of this child, had she not been kidnapped. Her mother shouldn't lose her because of state regulations. The child is still an illegal alien at the very least....Therefor I can't see ANY law that should keep her away from her mother....I think it is truly a sad day and age when the US creates laws that would harbor a child that is a citizen of another country, at the angst of her mother who had no power over where her little girl ended up living.
Date: 10/29/2002 10:27:00 AM  From Authorid: 32070    That is just WRONG!!!! Tac, when I read this title, the 1st thing I thought about was. OH NO, what has she (you) gotten herself into now????? :P.....
Date: 10/29/2002 11:02:00 AM  From Authorid: 31765    sounds like she got kidnapped again....this time by Oklahoma.
Date: 10/29/2002 11:05:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 600    Hey Private my bud!! lol, what? ME? *big hugs*
Date: 10/29/2002 11:06:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 600    Lady P, I agree. There's no way I will ever think that Oklahoma is acting in this girl's best interest. Her family would be though!
Date: 10/29/2002 2:06:00 PM  From Authorid: 33925    OMG, that is just wrong..this child will need her Mother NOW more than ever!! Its not like the Mother abused her..she was KIDNAPPED for God's sake!!
Date: 10/29/2002 4:33:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 600    Hi there LL my bud! I agree 110%....It's an outrage!
Date: 10/29/2002 6:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 53900    That is absolutely ridicoulous!!!! How dare they tell her she cannot have her daughter because she does not make enough money she is not even a citizen of this country
Date: 10/30/2002 5:24:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 600    I agree with you Jessica. I watched the news again last night and they didn't say anything else about it, so I'm going to continue watching and hoping that this state will do the RIGHT thing...Not holding my breath though....
