What Driving Mistakes Have You Made? -Lemon-

I got my learners permit august 1st so I've had it for 2 months now. I thought driving would be a piece a cake..I watch the way my parents drive and I figured this was going to be easy...I was wrong. I've made a few mistakes..2 that really stand out in my mind. The first mistake was when I was pulling out of the mcdonald's parking lot with my mom..to exit your on a little hill and I couldn't see so I pulled out in front of a car and stopped cause I got scared..my mom of course making me a nervous wreck and yelling for me to go.. well I got out of this car's way only to see that this wasn't an ordinary car but a police car and very angry policeman. I had my window rolled up and he was yelling at me and I was like 'sorry' I didn't mean to pull out in front of him. Luckily he didn't pull me over. The second mistake I made really scared me..again I was in the car with my mom and we were at an intersection..I was in the turn lane and when the light turned green I started to make my turn in front of someone who was coming straight..I could have killed us or I could have had a wreck..I thought that since I was in the turn lane I got to make my turn first I didn't think I had to sit and wait until the coast was clear. I got confused and made a mistake. So those are my worst driving mistakes that I've made so far. I'm still learning so I'm sure I'm not the only one that has made these kinda mistakes before.

Date: 10/3/2002 10:05:00 PM  From Authorid: 53052    do you have any family members that are about 5 years older then you?? in thier earlier 20's?? if you do ask them to teach you some.. it will make a world of difference.. parents who have been driving you around for 16 years are very paranoid when they give up the keys and power to thier child and them screaming and freaking out over every little thing doesn't help you learn any
Date: 10/3/2002 10:09:00 PM  ( Admin-MG )   I took a right turn wrong! Yep that's what the ticket said!
Date: 10/3/2002 10:15:00 PM  From Authorid: 26452    I cant drive yet, but my dad is teaching me how to drive a stick shift (On this ooold deserted dirt road) He just started teaching me a few days ago, but yesterday, I accidentally went past where we were supposed to turn, so my dad thought it would be a good idea to test out how well I back up and turn around (Backing up into a clear aera I hope that makes sense) Well, since its a stick shift, it was bring difficult, and I accidentally killed the engin...3 times lol. Then, he told me that a car was comming (Which is a rare thing on this road) so I'm thinking that its like right behind us, and *I* started freaking out (what he didnt tell me was the car was pretty far away) lol but after killing the engine about 4 more times, I finally got it started and got to the side of the road in time.
Date: 10/3/2002 10:16:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 18516    Midnightly..I'm an only child and I don't know anyone that young who could teach me. My mom is paranoid..she does make me a nervous wreck..my dad on the other hand helps me alot and I feel really comfortable when I'm in the car with him.
Date: 10/3/2002 10:16:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 18516    MG, is that possible? a right turn wrong?
Date: 10/3/2002 10:19:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 18516    MoonAngel, you brave soul!!! I can't drive stick shift..My dad tried to teach me a few years ago and I was backing up..well I almost backed up into a telephone poll..lol Automatics for me from now on!!

Date: 10/3/2002 10:22:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 18516    omgosh Telsha..well that beats my two driving mistakes! Telsha the stunt driver..lol
Date: 10/3/2002 10:24:00 PM  From Authorid: 26452    LOL Lemon, my dad thought it would be a good idea to learn a stick shift, and then an automatic (Thank god the car their giving me is an automatic though lol) Luckliy he has alot of patience(sp?) lol
Date: 10/3/2002 10:25:00 PM  From Authorid: 26452    LOL Telsha, OMG! lol I would have bee so freaked out
Date: 10/3/2002 10:26:00 PM  From Authorid: 39258    It was a stick shift and really late at night and I was driving home and I mixed up the clutch with the brake haha.. so yea.. that's my excuse
Date: 10/3/2002 10:27:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 18516    MA, automatics are much simpler! I could just imagine me driving a stick shift on the expressway bumping and grinding...lol
Date: 10/3/2002 10:29:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 18516    Telsha, I get the pedals all screwed up on a stick shift..I would have prolly done the same thing but knowing my luck the car would have turned over..lol
Date: 10/3/2002 10:36:00 PM  From Authorid: 53052    be happy your parents are teaching you properly.... most my driving came from driving my father to the liquior store and to pick up dinner on his nights to cook(the way he cooked is he bought)
Date: 10/3/2002 10:43:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 18516    Midnightly, oh I am happy that my parents are teaching me it's just scary being out on the road with other drivers. It's just something I haven't gotten use to yet and it's all new to me.
Date: 10/3/2002 10:45:00 PM  From Authorid: 53052    that i know.. that's the great thing about homes*L* you can drive around neighbourhoods and not have to deal with large amounts of traffic
Date: 10/3/2002 10:46:00 PM  From Authorid: 26452    Lemon, Yeah, I would much rather just learn the automatic, but my dad is set on me learing the stick shift first, and my mom has the automatic, and there is NO WAY shes letting me behind the wheel in her car.
Date: 10/3/2002 10:53:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 18516    Midnightly, I started out driving on the backroads which is way easier. But once you start getting into intersections and highways it can be a bit difficult since I'm not use to areas like that yet.
Date: 10/3/2002 10:55:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 18516    MA, well that's good that your dad is teaching you stick shift atleast you'll know how to drive one incase you ever need to.
Date: 10/3/2002 11:00:00 PM  From Authorid: 26452    Yeah, lol thats what hes been saying.
Date: 10/3/2002 11:00:00 PM  From Authorid: 42568    I've learned a lot from my driving experience. Sidewalks are only for pedestrians!
Date: 10/3/2002 11:06:00 PM  From Authorid: 26452    LOL Bethann!
Date: 10/3/2002 11:29:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 18516    MA, well I'm sure you'll do fine with the stick shift..after all practice makes perfect!
Date: 10/3/2002 11:30:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 18516    LOL @ Bethann!!!
Date: 10/4/2002 12:06:00 AM  From Authorid: 45948    LOL, while taking my drivers test, I actually hit a road sign. I just knew the officer would fail me then, but he actually passed me!! I was soooo shocked! And another time, on my way to my graduation ceremony, I got a run in my pantyhose so i was going down to the store and pulled out in front of someone and caused a wreck and almost didn't make it to my graduation ceremony!!!
Date: 10/4/2002 12:31:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 18516    That's cool that the officer passed you anyway. I'm sorry about the accident tho!! That must have been really scary. I have such a fear of being in a car accident.
Date: 10/4/2002 12:46:00 AM  From Authorid: 16671    Ok, i was coming back from Utah to Texas, I had driven about 16 straight hours with my four kids and four grandkids, one of which got a broken leg while on vacation. I was about an hour from home, it was raining cats and dogs, the MOON was NOT out and I accidently got on the freeway going the wrong way. So I drove for about five miles this way and it really ticked me off that a car had the NERVE to drive in MY lane and flash there lights at me! My sons kept saying mom, your on the wrong side of the freeway. I said, no i'm not. they said MOM, look at the signs, they are BACKWARDS! well I finally did look at the signs and yes indeedy they were backwards. All I can say is it was about four in the morning and thank God there wasnt much traffic on the freeway, just that one car. But then shortly after I got on my own side a big diesel truck went roaring by. Praise God that he takes care of the sleepy, dingy , travling people. LOL
Date: 10/4/2002 2:11:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 18516    Omgosh firstborn, thank god it was so late at night! You drove 16 hours straight..I couldn't have done that. Glad that you guys made it safely back to your side of the freeway.
Date: 10/4/2002 7:24:00 AM  From Authorid: 15228    Oh my, I dread the day my 13 year old is old enough to drive. You are lucky the cop didn't pull you over. But we all make mistakes, especially when we are just beginning and even after we are experienced..My worst mistakes are going the wrong way down a one way street FULL of on-coming traffic and getting stuck in a traffic circle (my step-dad kept saying "There's Big Ben...There's Big Ben...) and almost causing a wreck to get out of it..Don't worry, you'll eventually become more experienced and comfortable and it will soon seem like second nature to drive..
Date: 10/4/2002 9:26:00 AM  From Authorid: 53284    I was a delivery boy in San Francisco. There was a huge construction project going on at that time. I had made a delivery the week before to this person and I knew the way so I wasn't watching the street signs. I turned onto her street and the whole street was filled with cars coming towards me. I quickly turned into a driveway to let the traffic pass. They had made that street one way,do to the construction project, (not the way I was going) since I had been there the week before. That was rush hour, downtown San Francisco... LOL
Date: 10/4/2002 9:59:00 AM  From Authorid: 16671    Thank you. I'm use to staying up for 30 hours at a time. My system has been haywire this way since birth. I ROLFLMAO AFTER it was over. So did my kids and they wont let me live it down.
Date: 10/4/2002 10:02:00 AM  ( Admin-JGB )   My worst mistake driving was seeing a green arrow to go right, but I just saw green and went straight... right into the path of a pick up truck... SMASH!!! Oh the pain, the wrecked vehicles and me hysterical over my error!!! DUHHHHHH I have never not paid attention that much again
Date: 10/4/2002 1:56:00 PM  From Authorid: 38119    I accidently ran a red light and I got stuck in the intersection. I also ran over a curb while pulling out of a parking lot just recently. I actually think I did some damage to my tire. I just hope it's nothing really bad.
Date: 10/4/2002 7:48:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 18516    Kelly, your 13 yr old still has a few years so you can breathe easily for now..lol Thank you for your comment! I'm hoping to get more comfortable as I drive more often..there is just so much to distract you nowadays.
Date: 10/4/2002 7:50:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 18516    wow wildbob..the middle of rush hour..that musta been quite a mess to be in!!
Date: 10/4/2002 7:51:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 18516    FB, I don't know how you do it..staying up for 30 hours straight I would end up zonking out..lol
Date: 10/4/2002 7:52:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 18516    Oh my Jungabel!! I would have been hysterical too. That's one of my worst fears being in a car accident! Glad your okay!!!
Date: 10/4/2002 7:54:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 18516    I hope your tire isn't damaged that bad Blue Hue. I've gone over some curbs myself and my dad is always going over curbs!
