"What is it??!!" Abby asked loudly. "Where are my parents? Where are they?"
The officer searched for the right words to say. But are there any right words to use on a girl to tell her that her mother had committed suicide? "I'm sorry I had to be the one to tell you this, but your mother is dead." Abby didn't say a word, she stood in shock. "Your father is identifying her body."
Abby's mind was trying to digest this information. It wasn't possible. "Dead? How?"
The Officer responded, "She jumped from her bedroom window."
Abby looked up at him. She thought: Jumped? Like Mary. "This isn't true", she shouted to the man in the uniform, "You're lying! My mother would never do something like that! Never!!!" With that last word out of her mouth, Abby collapsed to the floor.
"Mom, is that you?" Abby asked a woman who looked very much like Cynthia.
"Yes, Angel. It's me, your mother."
"I'm not Angel, mom, it's me Abby."
"My sweet little Angel. I'll miss you most of all." She started fading away very slowly.
"Mom, don't go, no mom, please, stay with me."
When Abby opened her eyes she was in her room, only it wasn't hers. She looked around, it looked like her room, but with someone else's belongings. She was in a pink bed with fu fu pillows, the curtains were of a transparent pink material, a white nightstand and a white vanity on the wall near the door. She was confused, where was she? At that moment Abby saw an envelope on the nightstand. She reached for it an read the letter inside.
"My sweet Angel, you must hate me for doing this, but I have to. I can't take your father's violent temper. I can't take his beatings. I'm taking the coward's way out. I'm so sorry for leaving you behind, but I know you're a strong girl, you can get through this. I know you can. My sweet little Angel, I'll miss you most of all. I know it will only be a short time until we are together again. I'll be waiting for you on the other side, where there is no pain. And if by chance I'm not there when you arrive, know that I will be waiting for you in lifetimes to come. Love Always Your Mother, Mary."
Abby's eyes welled up with tears. No matter how hard she tried no to cry, the tears kept coming out of her eyes like a waterfall. She heard a loud thud and stood up. She caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror. Who she saw was Angel. Abby had somehow become Angel. She touched her face to see if it was real. Angel was staring at her from the mirror. Staring with those violet eyes. She noticed the birthmark again, and lightly touched it. What does this mean?, she thought to herself. She ran out of the house, but there, on the porch, was Mary's body. She was dead.
A shock when through Abby's body, it hurt so much she closed her eyes until it went away. When she opened them, there was no body lying on the ground. She searched frantically, but she found nothing. She wondered if maybe she was going crazy. Or maybe it was the stress of losing her own mother, in the same way that Angel lost hers. Abby didn't know what was happening to her, nor did she know how to find out. She had some clues, but how was she going to piece this puzzle?
