Yeah...I have my OWN homework to do! I finish my homework after a long day of school and cheerleading and baby-sitting and what-not and then to come on USM and see posts about homework help just bugs me lol. Kids should ask their parents...that's what I do...or phone their grandparents or aunts or uncles! Or friends! |

I agree with you. Asking for help is one thing..asking for them to do it for you is another. |

Well I'm studying to be a teacher and it is all good experience for me. I would love to be a tutor until then. But I see what you mean. Cmon guys remember that the point of assessment is to find out how good you are not how good your fellow usmer's are. The only time people should do this is if they are doing a survey. |

Yeah, I don't mind helping anyone if I can but I don't want to do a whole assignment. There is often a list of questions posted and the author is asking for the answers to them. |

They should just remember that we can't be there to take their tests for them. Us doing their homework does them absolutely no favors in the long run. |

The only time I asked for help was with an essay, where I had written it, and wanted to know what you guys thought. I see that as posting an essay, not asking anyone to do my homework...am I right on that? |

Ive done this once or twice, but I posted the assignment 2 weeks before it was due, asking for suggestions on how I could go about the assignment. I appreciated the input, and now I am graduated, I dont mind helping those because others have helped me. Although I have never gotten much thanx for it either, I didn't expect my actions to change the world, or their GPA. Just a little help helped them out, and I do the same once in a while for others. It does get annoying and you will see this happening all year until summer comes around again... its just the way this all works.. Love ya tonz |

I find those posts so annoying.I did my homework the old fashioned way. I did it myself. I didn't get on the internet and ask other people to do it for me. |

M.Man, there was nothing wrong with you asking for criticism and/or input on your essay. Buffy, there was nothing wrong with you asking for a general idea of what you might do your assignment on especially since you did it so far in advance and you planned on the doing the work yourself. I think you know that that's not what I was talking about, though. I'm sure that you've seen the other types of posts. |

I agree with you. If they are turning to the internet for homework help, why not go to one of the many websites made especially for that reason. There are bunches of them. I know for a fact because I do educational searches on the net all the time because I homeschool my son. |

I agree. I've been done and outta school for a year and a bit now. I don't want to come on here in my free time and do more homework for other people. Although if they wanna come on here and ask people to do their homework for them, all the power to them. They just gotta remember that those who did their homework for them aren't going to be of much help come test day. |

Snookums, I just have to wonder whatever happened to sitting down with a book and doing it the old-fashioned way. When I was in school, the only computers were owned by the government and big industry. Something like what is sitting in front of me right now was so big, it took a whole room to house it. We were lucky just to have electric typewriters for typing class. I remember when pocket calculators first came on the market. I got one which was made by Texas Instruments and it was huge. It was about as thick as a videocassette. The math teacher told me that I couldn't use it. In school and at home, we had paper, pencils, pens, notebooks, text books and maybe typewriters. I guess I could have called someone on the phone and asked them to do my homework for me but that thought never even occured to me. |

Thats the way it was when I was in school too. Some of these educational websites are very helpful with research but nothing replaces hard work and hitting the books. |

I agree. I'll also say that the ability to do web searchs for information can take the place of owning encyclopoedias or having to go to the library. Those are legitimate reasons to be on the computer while doing homework. |

My mom had this really nice set of encyclopedias she tried to sell at an auction. No one would buy them. Eventually they just gave them away. Computers have pretty much made encyclopedias obsolete. In my school days I used them constantly. |

For some reason, I just thought about what it was like before there were very many Zerox machines and we had to use carbon paper. I didn't see my first microwave oven until I was fifteen. I was working in a restaurant as a waiter at the time. I don't know if anybody had them in there homes at that time. I don't remember ever seeing any advertised. God, I feel old! |

it is okay to ask for help, but i saw those lists of questions too and it looked like peeps trying to get other usmers to do their lhomework for them. okay this is reaally stupid lol, but a couple of years ago my daughter needed help with a report so i took her to the library. i hadn't been to the library in 7 or 8 years maybe longer. we were both trying to find relative info and i was whispering out of the corner of my mouth, grittin my teeth "where is the card catalog?" and she's like " i don't know" there was no way i was gonna ask and look like an idiot lol. it turns out there was no card catalog like i remembered, it was computerized! you should have seen the looks i got when i asked! i about died of embarrassment! lol |
