Yes, the phone companies scam customers a lot... unfortunately. Because they had the market on telecommunications for years, they got away with it. I want to eventually get out of having a home phone due to all the extra expenses they love to attach. It would be good if people started getting rid of their home phones, then the phone companies would lower their prices. I used to work for a phone company and they take advantage of the service they provide. |

I don't see my family doing that. mainly because my mom is SO against cell phones *don't ask....* so dad and I have cells...but we can't get her on the bandwagon..lol besides I kinda like the house phone since you generally don't have to worry about the battery dying mid conversation |

well if you are always on the move then its great but cell phones die they can often lose power or signal and you pay per minute locally when on a home phone you pay only long distance, Cell phone plans are still a little pricy... i think it will be awhile yet before people give up thier "land lines" for a life with only a cell |

LOL It's funny that you should ask. I got my first cell phone yesterday and was thinking of giving up my home phone. I can't see the logic in paying an extra $40 a month for my home phone when I've got my cell and my boyfriend has his. The only reason I would consider keeping my home phone is for my son to use in emergencies if he's home alone. I guess that would be a good reason to keep it. *hugs* |

When we lived in Woodbridge that's all we had because we had cable internet... in Greenbelt we have to have a phone for DSL... otherwise I would stick to the cell phone |

Mobile phones make you at a higher risk of getting a brain tumour, and mobile phone calls are heaps more expensive than phone calls, outgoing and ingoing, and what if it's lost of stolen, thousands are stolen every day, then if you have an emergency you won't have a phone. I just don't think it's a good idea, because if all your friends use their home phone, they won't want to waste their money calling your mobile |

And I can't get rid of my home phone anyway, coz broadband and cable are a ripoff here, double the price it is in the states. |

I hope they do...the big "BELLS" have had control way to long already. I use my cell all the time. Cheaper and it's my personal dig at SBC. DreamWalker |

This post is an interesting piece of history. It's a glimpse into how people were adjusting to the rapid rise of cell phone usage. I feel a bit like a time traveller.
Here's a message from the future: Cell phones are gonna be big. Which is a massive understatement. They've fundamentally changed how we interact with the world. Home phones are no longer common. You essentially need a cell phone to function in society. |
