Lesson's From a Dog's Life~ Anabel

Ok...now for something lighthearted and truthful...:) I am a "dog person"..I have two dogs and seriously, anyone that has ever had a dog can't say that their life isn't altered from having shared their space with one.

I really think that we all get caught up in the unfortunate and pettiness that goes on in the world... God, I know that I do...but seriously, for the amount of crap that goes on, there is just as much cool stuff...it sometimes gets lost when we get stuck in the negative...I thought I would share this from my hometown's paper. Call me a PollyAnna if you want to, I don't give a rip...

Lessons From a Dog's Life:

Dog's have the right idea. They know how to enjoy life and they appreciate the simple things, like good food and a cozy place to sleep.. Consider a few more things that we humans might improve upon if we follw a dog's example:

1. Offer comfort to those in need. Sit next to them silently and listen to what they have to say.

2. Go outside at least once a day and let the fresh air rejuvenate you.

3. Run and play every day.

4. Find joy in taking a long walk, perhaps with a friend.

5. Eat when you're hungry, sleep when you're tired and stretch before you rise.

6. If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.

7. Be loyal to people you love.

8. Be true to yourself and your nature.

9. When loved ones visit, rush to greet them at the door.

10. Take the opportunity to do something that brings joy to others.

When I question anything, I always find the answer in breaking it down to the most simplest in terms. It is uncanny how often my pets help me to do this.:)

Date: 9/8/2002 2:39:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 34775    LMAO@ Author Only...well there are some other advantages I guess...but my dog's would never give you THAT sort of lesson!
Date: 9/8/2002 2:39:00 PM  From Authorid: 44850    all of a sudden, i just a bad case of deja vu ....
Date: 9/8/2002 2:43:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 34775    Awww...Amanda...that is so sad! I really have a hard time even thinking about losing my dogs. They were poisoned by someone or something in January and it was the hardest thing. I think that we need to make time for alot of these things...that is what I am always trying to keep in mind Thanks for your comment, I really appreciate it
Date: 9/8/2002 2:44:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 34775    lmao..well SP, I guess I did read it somewhere else as well...
Date: 9/8/2002 2:48:00 PM  From Authorid: 44850    as more of a cat person, i have learned to .... sleep when possible, stick my rear into people's faces at the most inappropriate moments, clean myself and those around me when ever i deem neccessary, refuse to eat unless my plate is completely full, and alas, the world revolves around ME, and everyone else is just there for my personal entertainment ...
Date: 9/8/2002 3:15:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 34775    dogs rule...cats drool....(lololol)
Date: 9/8/2002 3:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 28190    OMGoodness... Sorry to hear that about your dogs Anabel I dont see how people can hurt animals in any way... All i have now is my kittycat, and mom wont let us have another dog in the house.. ... But, such is life. We just gotta remember the good times, and enjoy the time we have. I definately will try to do more of these things
Date: 9/8/2002 3:21:00 PM  From Authorid: 44850    you feed dogs and you are god ... you feed cats because they are god ...
Date: 9/8/2002 3:31:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 34775    That's too bad, Amanda...maybe someday you and Nakoma can get another one...Patrick hasn't had a dog in ages and the other day he is like" I kind of want to get another one"...ugh...we have 2 already! lol! He was actually amazed and subscribed to the theory that dogs were more like "decor"...just something that ate and sleept around the house, but he realized that there is actually a connection. Although they do requirre alot of work..its worth it.
Date: 9/8/2002 3:34:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 34775    I am "mom" to my dogs, not because they have food...they would find that on their own, but because I show them lots of love...you get what you give, and I highly doubt your cat would rip someones face or nethers off because you were threatened...my dogs would...and that doesn't have anything to do with food....lol! I win you lose...kiddin...I like cats too...especially the ones that act like dogs.
Date: 9/8/2002 3:48:00 PM  From Authorid: 28190    Ohhh Anabel, you best bet Nakoma and I will get a dog... He wants a Pit so bad he can hardly stand it.. lmao... He is pure country boy though, and grew up with Pit's all his life. I definately know that mom wont let him get one of those, but I would love to have another dog. Dogs, are so much more than decor.. they are like Children or a friend, you can actually talk to them (and they might not understand what you say, or they may think you are a nut) but they look and act like they know what you are talking about. Plus dogs show they love, and care by their actions. Otherwise a Cat, will only love on you when it suits it's needs too and the rest of the time is off doing their own thing.. lmao
Date: 9/8/2002 3:48:00 PM  From Authorid: 22721    LOL This is SO true! My bichon frise seems to take such pleasure when I give her a belly rub!
Date: 9/10/2002 1:39:00 AM  From Authorid: 21435    Arguably...A dog is a man's best friend...lol..Hiya Anabel. I like dogs and though I don't own one at this time, I plan on getting one in about five years. I'm leaning towards a chihuahua...Hey!..What's so funny?..lol..I plan on doing lots of trucking around after I retire and I want one that I can manage and put in my pocket if I have to. The thing that amazes me about dogs is their hearing. First-alert on four feet..lol..Most K-9s like me. Thanks for sharing with us, my sister. See ya...
Date: 9/10/2002 8:52:00 PM  From Authorid: 44404    But dogs cower. Raise your voice, they get intimidated, tail covers the genitals, and they so clumsily shimmy-shake towards you with head down and eyes raised in well-practiced grovel. Whens the last time you saw a cat do that? Eh, who am I kidding? I love dogs too. Mostly cuz they don't wake you by sitting on your chest purring in your ear while licking the inside of your nostril. I had a girlfriend like that once. She was a freak. Oh yeah, and by the way Ann, how are you?
Date: 9/19/2002 7:26:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 34775    Kronk...that is the truth. I did some work with Vietnam Veterans who were dog handlers in the war, to try and get their efforts and the efforts of the dogs that they left behind recognized. It has been an uphill battle...but the resounding thought...they would have never survived if it wasn't for thier special friend.
Date: 9/19/2002 7:28:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 34775    Not Fawnie, Carl....she will raise her voice right back at you! And why shouldn't they cower...intolleance and cruelty is something that is completely foreign to them. I am fine...not making it on here as much as I want to lately, time has become a precious commodity
