Respect is just a word, it has letters of the alphabet, and it's 7 letters long. But it's still just a word.
Just as Love is a word, with letters of the alphabet, it's only 4 letters long.
However, when I think about it...
If respect is just a word... How come I wish to have the respect of my peers, my family, my fellow human beings? How come I want my parents to understand I am my own person, when I can't respect their rules? How come I want the people at my school to treat me with respect, when I don't treat that nerdy guy next to me with the same?
