I almost forgot to report on my visit to one of the top 10 ten haunted places in America! The Brookdale Lodge in norhtern California. (I think that's what it's called. Please correct me if I'm wrong). I was there August 15th for dinner after a wedding rehersal. If you don't know the history of the place (hey, niether do I really) a little girl, six I think, drowned in the brook that runs through the restaurant. It is supposedly haunted by her and a few other ghosts. I was totally into it when I learned we were eating there, I living on the opposite coast and hearing the inn's story on TV. Well, I sat next to the bride's cousin who, as was I, looked for paranormal activity. She had her eyes peeled on the opening of the brook and I searched the balconies. The place was creepy. Creepy, in that summer camp kind of way... old wood painted in hope to make the place look fresh. Several hallways and staircases were roped off. I deserately wanted to investigate them. I made our intentions known at the table only to be scoffed at, "They won't come out just because you want them to". Darn it! I live 3000 miles away and will probably never return! Running rampant was out of the question because of the social setting I was in. So I just kept my senses sharp. The bride recounted a story in which she and her fiance were dining there earlier. He went to the restroom, leaving her at the table alone. She felt like some one was watching her, chills, her hair stood up on the back of her neck. Our dinner came and went. Dessert was served. The 3 outcast smokers (as all smokers are in CA) ducked outside to puff. At one point I became seperated from my 2 other fellow addicts. I was returning to the table via the little staircase and heard scary voices. Note; this was the only time I was alone in the lodge. I could repeat what I made out of the voices but it made no sense so I'll spare you. Ghost or echo of the redneck guys playing pool? Or perhaps the 2 glasses of wine and gin and tonic I downed? Hmmm... When the wedding party started to disperse and sobriety left me and my girlfriends, we led ourselves on a little impromptu tour. "The Mermaid Room" CREEPY! It was a longe area that looked into a pool , underwater, though window. I was told this was an area set aside for men to chose a tagged, swimming prostitute. It was a very uncomfortable place. The rest of the restaurant was unremarkable. Wish I had more to report but those are the facts. Heeee!
P.S. I forgot to mention. While the waiter was being all fancy, opening the wine, some one asked if he had ever seen a ghost. He replied that he hadn't. I inquired how long he had been employed at the lodge-- only 3 months.
