I recently started attending NorthEast Iowa Community College in my hometown of Dubuque, Iowa. My first class of the day is College Comp 1. In it, we recieved our first assignment, a first draft of an essay. I decided on organized religion. For it, we can use opinions of others. So I decided on posting a story on USM to get others opinions. Here's what I plan on using in the first draft:
Organized religion is a necessity not only in today's world, but also in the past. Now, regardless whether you believe in this or not, I believe that it is necessary in this world. People need something to believe in, whether it be a God, Goddess, or many Gods. Why? I believe for many reasons. First of all, they need something that they can look up to, something that they can believe that they are a part of, something more than just themselves. I also believe they use religion as a tool to relieve themselves of the always relentless Death. People are afraid that one day, out of the blue, life as they know it will cease to exist. That frightens people. So there always has to be a continuance, after death, there is eternal life. Think about it. Eternal life...so only THIS life ends, not the next one. So you only have to worry about death once. Not too shabby.
Now, whether I agree with these religions is not the point. The point is is that organized religion, however far-fetched or outrageous some may sound, is necessary. Why? Because without it, man would be in chaos.
Well, what do you think? Of course this is only a summary, and I will go into much more detail when I write the actual first draft. But the reason I wrote this is because I need opinions. Different viewpoints. Well, whoever reads this, please post your thoughts. The more viewpoints I have, the better this essay will be. Thank you.
