What do you think about the breed

Many people think of Rotwielers as ferocious, vicous dogs. Now do you think thats fair. True there has been many storys on the newsabout Rotwielers mauling some person or even killing someone. But there are also storys about Rotwielers being abused and found in some ditch or even of them being dragged on a chain behind a moving car. There are many Rotwielers who are intelligent, sweet gogs. They just need a good, reponsible owner. A owner who will be ib charge, a owner who will take them to obediance classes, a owner who will care and love them. Not an owner who will abuse them, neglect them, buy them only to guard the home. Or a owner who just doesn't know the proper care that should be taken when owning a Rotwieler. So do you think this breed is vicious or sweet. -Cutie24

Date: 8/22/2002 3:26:00 PM  From Authorid: 49150    Our neighbor got a six week old. My husband noticed the man was out of town and went to check on the pup. He had no shelter, food or water. He was so weak his little legs were shaking. Needless to say we have had him ever since. We named him Forest and he is almost 8 months old. He is very sweet and I wouldn't trade him for a million dollars.

Date: 8/22/2002 4:27:00 PM  From Authorid: 39139    I think it depends on how you raise the dog and where you get it from. My aunt had two rotweilers and one of them was the sweetest dog ever. The other one, they didn't get it from a real breeder and it was pretty mean. I think they're sweet dogs as long as you raise them right. ~Beth~
Date: 8/22/2002 6:25:00 PM  From Authorid: 29781    As a rottweiler owner I'll add my two cents Vicious? and Rottweiler? don't seem to go together. Not with mine anyway. She loves everyone and everything. When she plays even play bites she's extremely gentle. She is smart and would never hurt anyone even if they were abusing her. That's just her nature. My experience with Rottie's have always been good, i have never met a mean or vicious one. Back in the 70's and 80's Rottweilers were becoming very popular because of the gentle nature and other great things about them. Those lookng for a quick buck starting breeding them without knowing what they were doing. due to inbreeding and not socializing the puppies correctly there were some bad batches bred. However this can happen with every breed. It does make a difference on how well the dog is socialized as a pup. I'm more scared of a chiuhua than i am a rottweiler. Rottie's are some of the best family dogs they have just had a lot of myth's about them. They do get big but they are really just gentle giants.
