So sad about the child, Belgian. The day care centers should always have adequate numbers of attendants. Children can slip away suddenly. Write on... |

Crazy things keep happening. Day cares take on a lot of responsibility with all of the kids that they are charged with. In the United Sates there have been a few instances where day care workers (as well as parents) have "forgotton" they had small children or babies strapped in car seats and have left them for hours. These children cannot survive the heat that cars can get to, and often these kids die a slow death. Any time I hear of a child dying as a result of negligence I want to scream. They are our most precious resource. |

That would be a terrible way to go. Suffocation is second on my list of worst ways to die after burning. Are these kids not monitored? If I was dishing out the cash for daycare I would expect that my kids would be constantly watched. The amount of time it would take to bury a child in the sand is WAY longer than I would expect my child to remain without an eye on him/her. That's just terrible... |

If my child went to that day care I would pull them out of there so fast. How could they not register him. They would have the biggest lawsuit ever. I would try to shut them down. I mean all morning none of the workers saw the boy and realized he wasn't there after lunch. Makes no sense to me. And where the heck were the workers when they were buring him. My heart and prayers go out to that poor family. That is such a shame. *ItalianPrincess* |

I ageree to all of the above, also over here people are filled with disbelief. I guess the kid must have been knocked out or something, because I think my kids would scream the longs out of their body. Or perhaps they were digging a hole and it collapsed when the boy fell into it. Details are not yet 100% clear. I'll post them as soon as I know more... |

When you are being crushed by something like the sand in this case with every breath your lungs retsrict more and more. So that in the end you can not get a deep breath or any at all. Thats what happenes when a snake that constricts first does, he sqeezes so that you are unable to get a breath in. So this little boy would not have been able to scream. I am sorry if this sounds harsh, it is a terrible freak accident and the parents must be suffering terribly. And my heart goes out to them. |

I worked in a daycare...it was manditory to sign all kids in and we also did head counts regularly...I can't picture the teachers actually ignoring children that long...even after-schoolers...I think that daycare will most likely be shut down for these reasons alone~SpaceCase |

that is very very sad!!! but I may say that it was the daycare center's fault for not doing their job immediately, by registering him. I am afraid to put my child in a day care center, with all the crazy stories you hear. There is no excuse for any of it and it just makes me sick listening to it. Those poor children suffer for the lack of adults responsibility. |

45628......it is VERY hard to move once your buried in sand. i remember when i was little, i went to the beach with my playmates and they buried me in sand up to my head..and i couldn't even move a finger. So that poor little boy couldn't dig his way out due to the weight of the sand on top of him....that is a HORRIBLE way to die! (imagine your lungs filling up with sand instead of water) |

what an awful story! poor little angel must have been so scared! i also worked in childcare, and by law the parents had to sign their children in and the staff had to sign them out to school, staff signed them back in after school, and parents signed them back out to go home. that is alot of tracking just on paper. i agree that someone should have noticed what these kids were doing and they were not supervised well because by law here in ca, at least, a child must be in sight of a teacher at all times except when they are like in the bathroom. that includes being watched when walking to the bathroom if it is in a separate building, the drinking fountain, another room, the child must be escorted. i would say surely someone saw this child being dropped off, but plenty of times we had kids "just show up suddenly" because their parents didn't want to have to get out of the car and sign them in. doheney |
