To be there for another is too hard
to love another is too much effort
to think positive in the face of adversity is too demanding
to give a helping hand would cut into my time
to dip into my pocket would deny me that movie I was planning on renting
to smile at someone takes too much thought of whether I want to or not
to hold open a door for someone frailer than I would take too much strength.

So I will be on my way now
and try not to think that one day
I may need someone to be there for me
I may need the love of another
I may need a positive attitude when times are hard
I may need a helping hand
I may need an extra two dollars for something to eat
I may need someone, anyone, to smile at me
and most of all, I will try not to think that one day...
I will need God to hold open the doors of Heaven for me....
